Bazaar Ramadan traders who are caught subletting lots allocated to them will naturally face a standard penalty of getting their permits cancelled, having their good and trading materials confiscated but now, they can also expect to be blacklisted.
Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib, the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur said this during the balloting of trading lots for Lorong Tuanky Abdul Rahman. He also reminded petty traders that they are not allowed to have foreigners are assistants based on the federal government’s ruling.
“If they need help they can ask their family members or friends but that’s the ruling and they face the same penalties as those subletting,” he said during the event attended by more than 1,000 traders, here in Stadium Titiwangsa.
In the past, many who were caught for subletting their lots used the excuse that foreigners were just helping them out at the time when City Hall checkers arrived on site.
According to a source, petty traders were by definition of those with a capital of below RM50,000.
Those with a capital above RM100,000 could however hire foreign helpers.
The Mayor indicated that the bazaar lots were given out with the objective to help out the poor or small time businessmen.
“They can’t take our kindness for weakness and use this holy month and the charitable mood we are in as leverage for such underhanded tactics,” he added.
