Basic Feng Shui Tips for Your Home

If your new home is in dire need of more prosperous energy this new year, you might want to start mastering some basic feng shui steps for your home. Here are some simple feng shui house tips for beginners.

1. Clean out the clutter

Any feng shui expert you go to will first advise you to clean out the clutter in your house. Clutter can disrupt the harmony in your home, but the process itself can help you lighten the load while keeping your home neat and tidy.

2. Ensure a clear path to your front door

If you want to welcome good feng shui energy (Chi) into your home, start with your front door. Make sure there’s nothing blocking the Chi flow of your front door, like a tree. Keep the pathway to your front door clear, and maintain your front door that it looks good and functions properly. You can also add “greeters” like colorful flowers or a welcome mat to make it more welcoming.

3. Maintain good air and light quality at home

Air and light are essential for Chi. Keep your windows open as often as you can to allow good flow of air, and keep a few plants inside to help purify it. Allow natural light into your home in the day time and use full-spectrum lights at night.

4. Arrange furniture in the Empowered Position

An empowered position means you can see the entrance from where you are sitting or lying. For example, your study desk or bed should be able to see the doorway or even a window. However, your desk or bed should not be in direct alignment with the open doorway.

5. Remove unfriendly furniture

Do you often bump into your furniture? Stub your toe on the coffee table, or bruise your hip whenever you walk past your desk? Replace your sharp-edged furniture with rounded-edged ones and hide any decor that looks intimidating. You want your home to be a safe haven, not a danger zone.

6. Repair and fix anything that’s broken

Our homes can be a reflection of ourselves so care for your home as you would yourself. If anything’s broken, cracked or requires any repair, don’t wait and get it fixed as soon as you can.

7. Use Mother Nature as your decor

Good energy does not only have to come from the air outside, but nature as well. Decorate your home with your favorite plants or even a four-legged creature that’ll fill your home with more positive energy.

8. Utilize passive and active spaces

Want better rest at night? Maintain your bedroom as a passive space and not an active space. An active space is a spot where you’ll be able to focus on your work or studies, while a passive space is meant to low rest. Arrange your bedroom that it looks like a haven relaxation for you while your study room will inspire you to work more. This way you can get all the rest you need while being able to focus with your work.
