The Masakini Theatre Company returned with yet another amazing performance – Wayang – Malaysia Kita. This is an instalment from their previous production The Story of Kuala Lumpur and Malaysian Stories.
Shadow theatre itself is such a magical form of art and it is one of the oldest types of theatrical story-telling. Director and founder of Masakini, Sabera Shaik, is considered one of the masterminds in the local theatre scene and a trailblazer in the arena of contemporary shadow theatre. Her obvious pride in Malaysian heritage and culture is what strongly inspires her to create these local folklore and icons depicting everyday Malaysian life.
Malaysia Kita was shown in Kuala Lumpur at Auditorium Bandaraya from 30th March till 3rd April (Wednesday to Sunday) at 8:30pm and tickets were sold at RM23, Rm53, RM83. In Auditorium D’Sury, Seremban, showtimes were on 8th April and 9th April (Friday and Saturday) at 8:30pm and tickets were sold at RM23.
We got the chance to experience the show ourselves, and it was simply brilliant. The show took us through a very nostalgic and exuberant journey all over Malaysia. Starring a couple whom travels through Malaysia observing everything from iconic buildings to activities and wildlife prevalent to individual state, the show will remind you how great our country, Malaysia, really is. It’s filled with character and little quirks you can only get here.
