Created by master perfumer Quentin Bisch under the direction of Amouage Chief Creative Officer Renaud Salmon, this exquisite fragrance takes inspiration from the very soul of the frankincense tree – its roots, its branches, and the sacred resin that flows within.
Frankincense has long been at the heart of Amouage’s olfactory identity, and with Purpose 50, this ancient material is presented in its most profound and immersive form. While Purpose Eau de Parfum soared towards the heavens with its luminous and expansive composition, Purpose 50 dives deep into the earth, anchoring the wearer in a scent that is rich, grounded, and powerful.
A Scent Rooted In Depth & Connection
The creation of Purpose 50 Exceptional Extrait was not about altering an existing masterpiece but rather about unearthing new depths within it. “Purpose Eau de Parfum always felt like it had more to say,” shares Renaud Salmon. “It called out to us for further exploration. We realized that to fully embrace the story, we needed to make an Extrait – one that magnifies its intensity and emotional resonance.”
With a 50% perfume oil concentration and an aging process of four weeks, Purpose 50 is an olfactory meditation on the raw, untamed force of nature. It opens with the sharp vibrancy of Pink Pepper, leading the way for Frankincense – now darker, richer, and more mystical than ever before.
Beneath the surface, notes of Sand Vetiver, Papyrus, and Saffron echo the fragrance’s deep-rooted essence, while a bespoke Sandalwood accord extends the composition’s meditative warmth. To add an intimate, almost human-like sensuality, Bisch introduces a subtle note of Vanillin, giving Purpose 50 a delicate yet carnal finish.
“Frankincense trees have bark that is almost like human skin – fragile, yet resilient,” says Salmon. “We wanted Purpose 50 to evoke that same feeling, creating an experience that resonates not just with the senses, but with the soul.”
The Art Of The Exceptional Extraits
Purpose 50 joins Amouage’s prestigious Exceptional Extraits collection, where every fragrance is crafted with meticulous attention to aging, concentration, and artistry. These creations push the limits of both ingredients and craftsmanship, offering an experience that is truly rare and extraordinary. Purpose 50 is aged for four weeks – two weeks of maturation, followed by two weeks of maceration – to achieve its deep, resonant profile.
A Striking Presentation
Reflecting the intensity and richness of its composition, Purpose 50 is housed in a strikingly luxurious version of Amouage’s signature flacon. Featuring deep green lacquer with an ombre effect that darkens at the base, the bottle visually embodies the fragrance’s journey – from the roots of the earth to the sacred resin within.
The packaging, designed by Belgian artist Louise Mertens, takes inspiration from the original Purpose Eau de Parfum but deepens the hues and introduces golden accents, capturing the fragrance’s rich spirituality and profound allure.
