After years of countless rumours and setbacks regarding this highly sought after reunion, the cast of ‘Friends’ are finally going to release a reunion special this year and we are all over the moon with this news!
However, fans have hold their excitement a little longer as the reunion of our dreams which we all have waited eagerly for over years, might take a tad bit more time than expected. The reunion special was initially set to be released in May 2020, but production has been pushed back due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
“We are hoping to be able to shoot in August if all is well and there is no early second wave and the studio is open,” co-creator Marta Kauffman told The Wrap in June.
The reunion will include all six cast members, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc, as well as Kauffman, 63, and cocreator David Krane. This will be the first time all cast members will be seen on the centre stage since the show wrapped in 2004. Although details of the special is yet to be announced, the cast seems to be just as excited about stepping onto the stage together as the fans are.
The special is still set to film on Stage 24 of the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank, the same stage the sitcom was filmed for 10 years. Launched on May 27 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the iconic sitcom, HBO Max, HBO’s new streaming service, is gearing up to gather artists for special events.
“Guess you could call this ‘The One Where They Get Back Together,’” HBO Max’s chief content officer Kevin Reilly said in a statement in February. “I became aware of Friends when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewer’s generation after generation.”
Till date, fans are repeatedly watching the sitcom on Netflix and other online streaming platforms for the rib tickling comedy and genuine entertainment showcased by all cast members. There’s no doubt that ‘Friends’ have become the most popular sitcoms of all times.
The show consisted of 236 episodes between its 1994 premiere and 2004 finale. The comedy was nominated for 62 Primetime Emmy Awards (four wins), 10 Golden Globe Awards (one win), 14 Screen Actors Guild Awards (two wins) and 11 People’s Choice Awards (11 wins).
