Whitney Houston is a name that can never be erased from our memory. She is a diva in the world of music, and we could call her the Queen of love songs – the power of the voice brings down tears to most of us. She is a woman who has been through heartache and depression, but still found a way to pull through at the end of the day.

No matter what, her music will always be remember and the messages she passed through.

Here a few facts about Whitney Houston that you may or may not have heard of before;

1. She included family with work
Whitney Houston made sure that everyone who worked with her was family. They managed her, sang with her, wrote songs with her, and they were even her bodyguards.

2. Her favorite place was home
Whitney never wanted to be away from home. She enjoyed doing things around the house and most of all, spending time with her husband and family. She always wanted to live the ‘normal life’ with a family.

3. Call her ‘Nippy’
Her father, John Houston gave her the nickname, ‘Nippy’ when she was a baby. It is related to a cartoon character who was always getting in trouble. As a baby, Whitney kept kicking off her winter blanket, her father kept covering her again and that’s when he though, “Nippy, seldom right’

4. The first female with diamond albums
Whitney was the first female artist to have twi diamond album. In January 1994, her album ‘Whitney Houston’ and ‘The Bodyguard Soundtrack’ had hit platinum over 10 times. Whitney’s albums have also spent over 51 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts – that is more than any other female artist.

5. She was a model
Believe it or not, Whitney Houston didn’t always dream of being a singer. In her teenage years, she dreamt of becoming a model and at one point, she was able to hit the cover of Seventeen magazine!

_______________

There is no doubt that her music is something that signifies her true colours – despite her drug-downfall, her music has always been the one thing that expressed what she was going through from the inside.

Here are our Top 3 Favorite Songs from the legendary, Whitney Houston:

1. I Will Always Love You (The Bodyguard Soundtrack, 1999)
This song is considered as a classic when Whitney Houston comes to mind. The deep lyrics and that powerful voice – it gives us goosebumps each and every time we listen to this song. It is based on the movie ‘The Bodyguard’ staring Whitney herself, and Kevin Costner.

2. I Look To You  (2009)
This is one of her most recent songs, and though it is not as powerful in tone as her previous hits – there is still something about the lyrics and the entire music video that keeps our eyes glue and ears open.

Just before the tragic death of Whitney Houston, she was working on what we think would have been her big come back. She was set to star in a heartfelt movie on the music industry of Motown, ‘Sparkle’. It is set to be released mid-august 2012. We can’t wait to see how her performance was.
