Football evidently makes the world go round as it unites us in cheering, staying up all night, and in suffering the agony of defeat, together. Similarly, YNWA (You Never Walk Alone): The Official History of Liverpool Football Club aims to unite everybody by celebrating 120 years of Liverpool’s colourful history musically. Brought to you by SaiKris Leisure, the UK production will be shown in Malaysia for three nights only this July.
Penned by Nicky Allt, the musical opens with a family, burying their grandfather and reminiscing memories of him as a hardcore Liverpool fan. On their trip down memory lane, the story unfolds from the club’s very beginning on Anfield in 1892 to recreating many of its momentous triumphs and losses.
Stories in the musical pay homage to some of Liverpool’s talented players including Elisha Scott and Steven Gerard, as well as their managers Bill Shankly and Rafael Benitez. It even has allusions to Luis Suarez before biting got the better of him.
Not only is YNWA a must-see for Liverpool fans, its family-oriented setting is perfect for father-child quality time and more so for a new generation of Kopites. Even if you’re not a fan, YNWA is filled with history, British wisecracks, witty dialogue and musical elements for you to enjoy. Liverpool’s anthem is a musical number for a Rodgers and Hammerstein’s production after all.
The musical will be held at Stadium Negara, Kuala Lumpur from July 31 to August 2 2015. Tickets are priced from RM88 for Category 6 free seating to RM588 for VVIP numbered seating. Purchase tickets online via TicketPro or its ticket outlets. You can also keep a lookout for the YNWA truck that goes around the city for a special promo.
