When planning for a child’s birthday party many adults tend to overlook the little details that make it memorable for a child. It’s undeniable that good food and cupcakes are a sure hit among the guests but what makes your party stand out the most are the efforts you put into your decoration and props to create a theme for your party. Most kids are wowed by colors and there is no doubt that giving your kid’s party a splash of color will heighten the mood and will guarantee plenty of amazing pictures. Here’s how you can have your own Rainbow themed party:
1. Colorful Streamers
Crepe paper is available at any bookshop at RM1.50 per pack in a multitude of colors which you can cut up very quickly. Use blu tack to stick them to your wall or ceiling to avoid leaving a mark later on. These are very simple pieces but create a dramatic effect to welcome and wow your guests.
2. Colorful Cutouts
With a little string and paper, anything is possible. Make these simple paper cutouts and stick them to a long stretch of ribbon and hang them around the house or where important games and food are served to mark them as hotspots at the party.
3. Colorful Flowers
Okay, so how many of us know anything about flower arrangement? Zilch? Yeah, me too. One stalk of flower in one glass, how easy can it get? Get these flowers in a variety of colors at RM3 per stalk at IKEA and recycle your old jam and sauce jars to get these simple yet striking decoration.
4. Colorful paper serviettes
These paper serviettes may cost a little more than the normal plain ones but your guests will notice this little effort and will be amazed that you went all the way to stay in theme! You can get them from any shop selling party goods.
5. Colorful Food
Okay so you may think it’s impossible to get healthy colorful food without heaps of coloring involved but think again. Steer clear of junk food and hit the fresh food department! Cut up vegetables and fruits such a papayas, cucumbers, carrot sticks, pineapples and strawberries are rich in nutrients and look great when arranged according to color. To get your little ones to snack on them, introduce different dips such as yogurt, mayo, jam or even good ol Nutella!
Of course, what’s a party without some sweet treats for the kids (and the adults)? Prepare some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or an assortment of cupcakes with rainbow colored toppings.
6. Colorful Drinks
How about all colors of the rainbow in your glass? Blend sweetened colored ice color by adding food coloring to the mix and layer them one after another slowly and gently. Only stir them altogether just before serving!
7. Colorful Gifts
Give your little guests something to take home after the party. These DIY necklaces which you can get them to make on their own using colors and beads of their choice is an excellent way to keep them occupied while the adults chatter away. Beads and threads are available at any sewing supplies store or art & crafts store.
Planning a party can be tedious and not many people put enough effort into them other than the food but there is nothing more satisfying them having your guests tell you what an amazing party you’ve thrown. Don’t do everything alone, get your kids involved so that they’ll feel important. Bring them out shopping with you and ask for their opinions and what they like or dislike. After all, this party is theirs to remember as well. Happy planning!
