They say the eyes are the windows to a person’s soul. And it is every reason why women pay a lot of attention to the appearance of their eyes. Especially Asian women!
Often, Asian women think that their eyes are small and ugly, and they go to many lengths to “changes” their eyes. Some alterations are permanent and expensive (e.g. going under the knife to change their monolids to double eyelids), whereas others are cheaper but temporary options (e.g. makeup, coloured contact lenses, fake eyelashes or eyelash extensions, and double eyelid tape).
It’s safe to say that even just the eyes can be quite a high-maintenance physical feature!
A decade ago, coloured contact lenses were all rage. The light-coloured contact lenses give the illusion of bigger eyes. And as of recent, a newcomer has hit the cosmetic market to cater to Asian women who yearn to beautify their peepers.
Eye-enlarging “circle lenses” were first made popular in Korea before the trend spread to its neighbouring countries and then made its way into the United States. Slightly different than the regular coloured contact lenses, “circle lenses” have coloured portions that are larger than a person’s actual iris.
Because of that, it makes irises appear larger, which will result in bigger Asian eyes. When “dressed up” with appropriate makeup and double eyelids, one’s eyes can look more defined, alluring, and somewhat dramatic.
Two brands of “circle lenses” that we’ve personally handpicked out of the lot are:
1. Blincon
If you want to play it safe then Blincon is probably the brand you’re looking for. These cosmetic contact lenses come in mostly natural colours and are safe for repeated wear up to three months after purchase. We’re particularly fond of their black range (Smokey Black, Secret Black, and Cyclone Black).
We like how these lenses stay comfortable throughout the day and are perfect for long-wearing! They don’t dry out easily or irritate the eyes after just a few hours. Blincon disposable contact lenses retail at about RM80 per pair.

2. Geolens
Feeling adventurous? Does Lady Gaga inspire you? Is cosplay your thing? Then, as the chart above might suggest, you could just be the next loyal Geolens customer. Geolens carry a variety of the craziest cosmetic contact lenses from animations to images, and funky patterns (e.g. stars, hearts, butterflies). You can even opt to turn your irises full white or full red like, uh, Marilyn Manson.
Word of caution though, these lenses dry out easily! The most they can do is put up with a few hours’ worth of partying. Geolens’ prices range from anywhere between RM18 to RM45 per pair, depending on which style your choose.
For more information visit their website.
For both brands, the circle diameters range from 13mm and above. Like this new breed of contact lenses? Be sure to identify the brands you’re wearing though and use it at your own risk.
