The March issue of InStyle magazine featured the beautiful star of Scandal, Kerry Washington. The only problem is, Washington’s skin seem to be a few shades lighter compared to what it is in real life. The magazine is now in hot water even though the issue hasn’t even hit newsstands!
After fans responded in a less that impressed manner, InStyle issued an apology to both fans and Washington.
This is what the official statement had to say from the magazine:
While we did not digitally lighten Kerry’s skin tone, our cover lighting has likely contributed to this concern. We understand that this has resulted in disappointment and hurt. We are listening, and the feedback has been valuable. We are committed to ensuring that this experience has a positive influence on the ways in which we present all women going forward.
They must have taken lessons from Olivia Pope on how to handle a scandal ‘cos they sure did handle it swiftly. Even Washington handled in with such poise:
We applaud these actresses that refuse to be photoshopped and magazines should really understand that while a slight touch up on the imagery is okay, totally changing someone’s look to suit their idea of beauty is not.
