Melbourne, Australia’s cultural capital will be transformed into 12 hours of magical imagination and culture come 21 February 2015. So if you’re making a trip down under, you might want to consider adding this event to your calendar.
Inspired by the ‘Nuit Blanche Cities’ movement which started in Paris and means “sleepless nights”, White Night Melbourne is the State Government of Victoria’s initiative to bring joy and art to nocturnal individuals and visitors of Victoria.
One can expect Melbourne’s city streets, major cultural institutions, public spaces, garden, landmark buildings and laneways to be converted into unique works of art from 7pm on Saturday (21 February 2015) until 7am on Sunday (22 February 2015).
Leading creatives from all over the globe will join forces with Melbourne’s thriving music, art, theatre, sport, fashion, film, design and performance communities to make this event a success.
Launched in 2013, White Nights Melbourne will offer 90 free activities throughout the city, providing diverse and family friendly selections as well as a range of exclusive ticketed events for the 12-hour programme. There will also be free shows by local and international artists at the World Music Stage featuring African beats, European folk, Latin funk and Asian hip-hop along with a free installation show at Midtown Plaza that will transform a blank city wall into one massive art animated billboard.
For the full programme, visit the White Night Melbourne website in February.
