In her brand spankin’ new short film called “Yours and Mine”, Queen Bey schools us on body image and feminism. The surprise almost-12-minute video was released in celebration of the one-year anniversary of her self-titled visual album, BEYONCÉ. As a black and white footage of her music videos are being played, the very successful singer talks about her incredible life. In the video, Beyoncé speaks of a lot of things but our favourite has got to be what she had to say on body image.

“I know when you grow up, when you learn a few things, you’re no longer afraid of letting go. You’re no longer afraid of the unknown. You’re no longer afraid of going to certain places in your body and your mind and your soul, that may make you feel uncomfortable. It all starts with if you can look at yourself in the mirror and say ‘I like that person,’ you know? If I hadn’t gone through some of the painful experiences in my life, I would not be me.”

Queen Bey has somewhat become the unofficial spokeswoman for feminism and in the video, she made sure to touch on the subject by saying, “I always considered myself a feminist, although I was always afraid of that word because people put so much on it, when honestly it’s very simple. It’s just a person that believes in equality for men and women. Men and women balance each other out, and we have to get to a point where we are comfortable with appreciating each other.”

Amen, to that!

Beyoncé also let us in on her secret of leading a life full of eternal happiness: “Happiness comes from you. No one else can make you happy. You make you happy.”
