BMW Group Malaysia recently introduced the latest addition to its new BMW 4 Series family, the all-new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé which marks the introduction of the first-ever BMW compact executive sedan coupé to feature four-doors.
Design: Distinctive and Functional.
The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé features an elongated roofline, stretched side window design and a large, wide-opening tailgate with contours which blend harmoniously into the overall design. Comparatively, the BMW 428i Gran Coupé shares the same measurements in terms of length, width, height, wheelbase and track as its sibling, the BMW 4 Series Coupé.
The significant difference of the BMW 428i Gran Coupé is its 112mm longer roofline which creates a more gradual transition to the rear. The perfect proportions of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé makes for enhanced headroom on all seats and greater comfort with the rear seats. It also boasts a noticeably more spacious luggage compartment with a total capacity of 480 litres, 35 litres larger than that of the two-door coupé.
The third side window featuring the BMW Hofmeister kink of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé improves visibility for rear-seat passengers, further heightened by its large rear window providing all-round visibility. From behind, the car displays a wide-opening automatic tailgate with Comfort Access system which allows convenient loading and unloading of the luggage with a contact-less open and close system.
For improved aerodynamics, enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced drag, the BMW 428i Gran Coupé design comprises of distinctive Air Breathers behind the front wheel arches and Air Curtains on the far right and left of the car’s front. The expressive lines, headlights, L-shaped taillights and lower air inlet converge to give the four-door sports coupé silhouette an athletic and powerful appearance. The M Sport package available not only enhances the natural elegance of the BMW 428i Gran Coupé for greater road presence, but also adds an extra touch of dynamism.
Engines: Superior Efficiency, Dynamics and Comfort
The notable BMW TwinPower Turbo technology teams up with a stunning eight-speed Steptronic sport transmission, including shift paddles on the steering wheel and Launch Control system.
Also, the BMW 428i Gran Coupé is equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which delivers an output of 180 kW / 245hp and torque peaking at 350Nm. The car boasts a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 6.1 seconds with a top speed of 250km/h. It also records a low fuel consumption of 6.6 litre per 100km and CO2 emissions of 154 grams per 100 kilometre.
Together with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission and Navigation System Professional, additional BMW EfficientDynamics measures including Driving Experience Control with ECO PRO mode, Coasting function offers an unrivalled fuel-efficient driving pleasure.
Making its debut for the first time is a new feature which provides anticipatory gearshift strategy for sport and comfort mode. Data from the navigation system is supplied to the transmission control unit to enable adjustments of the gearshift strategy to better match the road layout ahead for either a fast, sport response (Sport Mode) or a comfort-focused shift program with fewer gearshifts (Comfort Mode).
Interior: Outstanding Dynamics, Sedan-like Comfort
The interior of the BMW 428i Gran Coupé features a sporty and elegant cockpit matched with high-quality materials such as Dakota leather upholstery. The four-door sports coupé is fitted with signature BMW driver orientation, circular black panel instruments and an advanced iDrive control system consisting of a fixed flat screen monitor and iDrive with Touch Controller.
Additionally, the rear door allows easy ingress and egress for passengers along with shorter front doors made convenient for narrow parking spaces. The 2+1 rear seat layout of the BMW 428i Gran Coupé is paired with a 60/40-split foldable rear backrest for added flexibility and enables the 480-litre luggage compartment to expand to 1,300-litres with a level luggage compartment floor. Contoured seats along with an auxiliary headroom of 11mm and 27mm for the front and rear respectively provides ultimate comfort (sunroof option available with M sport package).
The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé also comes with a set of comprehensive BMW ConnectedDrive features which include enhanced Bluetooth connectivity, BMW Apps and BMW Live.
The four-door coupé has an extremely stiff but lightweight body for maximum stability. Additionally, the Servotronic function used to adjust steering effort and angle to respond to the different driving situations is included as a standard. The Adaptive M Suspension available for the BMW 428i Gran Coupé as a standard enables drivers to select between Sport and Comfort mode.
The four-door model’s excellent chassis technology and damper system on the car’s rear axle substantially enhances ride comfort for rear-seat passengers. Using the Driving Experience Control to select Sport +, Sport or Comfort Mode, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé offers unparalleled agility and ride comfort.
Colours available for the BMW 428i Gran Coupé include Alpine White, Melbourne Red, Glacier Silver, Mineral Grey and Jatoba Metallic while additional colours of Carbon Black and Estoril Blue are exclusive colours available for the BMW 428i Gran Coupé M Sport variant. The BMW 428i Gran Coupé features interior upholstery options consisting of Leather Dakota Black with Red highlights, Leather Dakota Oyster with Black highlights and Leather Dakota Coral Red with Black highlights. Meanwhile, the BMW 428i Gran Coupé M Sport variant offer the options of Leather Dakota Black with Black highlights, Leather Dakota Ivory White with Black highlights or Leather Dakota Coral Red with Black highlights.
