Local Policeman Sentenced To Prison For Accepting Bribe

A police inspector in Kuching was sentenced to two days in prison and fined RM5,600 by a Special Corruption Court for accepting a bribe of RM800.00.

43-year-old Abdul Aziz Abdul who is attached to the Kota Sentosa police station pleaded guilty to two corruption charges of accepting cash inducements from two pirated DVD sellers from a company called Sound City Enterprise three years back.

He pleaded guilty to accepting RM500 from a Joseph Wong on February 11th, 2011 in the first charge. The offence got him sentenced to one day in jail and a RM3,500 fine under Section 165 of the Penal Code.

He also pleaded guilty to the second charge of accepting RM300 cash on October 5th, 2011 from a Stephan Kon as inducement for not taking action against the company; for which he was sentenced to one more day in jail and fined with RM2,1000.

The law provides for a maximum of two years imprisonment or a fine, or both, for each charge, if convicted.

Abdul Aziz is married with five children, the youngest being two years old.
