We also had the chance to speak to Mr. Tang Siew Wai, the Country Manager for Reebonz Malaysia and here’s what went down during our little chat.
1. Could you kindly share with me a short background of Reebonz?
Reebonz is the preferred online shopping destination for buying and selling the widest range of luxury products in Asia. Now we have eight regional offices across Asia in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea. We carry more than 800 designer labels so there’s a lot of brands, but of course in Malaysia we have the main luxury brands. You can see Prada, Givenchy, Gucci, Coach, Ferragamo and many more. A lot of the products from these brands are not available in their boutiques locally but we have them on our site. Besides bags, we also have small leather goods, shoes and watches for both men and women.
2. How would you say Reebonz is doing at the moment in terms of sales, competition and popularity amongst the online shopping community?
I would say that we are expanding at quite a rapid pace. Right now, from the eight countries we operate, we can ship to more than 21 countries now. Even on the website, we have millions of dollars worth of stocks online everyday. That’s the kind of scale that we are doing. We’re doing pretty well I’d say.
I think there are three key things – trusted, wider selection and convenience. We have presence all over Asia and we started this business since March 2009, so we’ve been doing this for more than five years already. We have a huge follower base as well in all these countries and we can guarantee that the items that we carry are 100% authentic, so the trust is there. Like I have mentioned earlier, we have more than 800 designer labels. If you notice, the boutiques only carry the products in safe colours like black and white whereas we carry a much larger range in different sizes and colours. Consumers have a lot more to choose from in that sense.
We have Reebonz merchandisers based in Europe and U.S. to source for the items and work directly with the brands. That’s how we get our stocks. Even for some brands that do not have boutiques here in Malaysia, we do carry their products as well. We have a large merchandising team to determine what to get. Of course it would be a mixture of the latest collections and their most popular items. If you look at our site, you’d notice that it’s very thematic and organized. We have a global branding team to decide what gets featured on the site.
For all our items, we offer free shipping and there’s no duties or taxes. There’s no hidden charges at all. We also provide interest-free instalment payment plans for six, 12, 18 and 24 months, depending on the price of the products. We actually offer this option and many banks are working with us right now. We also offer hassle-free returns so if you got the wrong model, decide you don’t like the colour or your item has defects upon arrival, you have that option and we will actually refund you in Reebonz Credits or with a cheque. Of course, there are terms and conditions.
We have a very big warehouse in Singapore and all deliveries come from there. All our products are also nicely packaged so customers can be assured that their products will arrive in good condition and safely.
3. How long does a regular shipping take for Malaysian customers? Why should customers shop with you?
For the entire Malaysia, our promise to customers is five working days but our products usually arrive within three working days. Of course, provided that there are no hiccups at customs.
I think we address a gap in the market. For instance, when a customer goes to a boutique and asks for the price of a product, I think they would feel a little intimidated sometimes when it’s thousands of dollars involved. It’s also slightly embarrassing to ask if there’s an instalment payment plan when they make a purchase. So, I guess it’s much easier online and we offer that payment option.
3. How important is customer satisfaction to Reebonz?
I think that’s the most important thing when it comes to Reebonz. We always strive to delight our customers to make sure they’re happy and we always like to give customers surprises once in a while. Sometimes we send them something out of the blue and for certain customers, if we have issues and we deliver the items later than the promised date, we will sort of make up for it just to make them happy. Even in terms of packaging, we ensure that the ribbons are nicely tied up, according to standards, and we have a separate logistics line just to ship the products. So, it’s THE most important thing for us.

5. For customers who are facing issues, like if they got the wrong model or there are defects, how do they go about it and contact you guys to get a refund or a change?
For refunds you can submit your application online or you can also write to us via email. At the end of the day, we just want our customers to be happy and we would investigate, but most of the time we wouldn’t say no to returns. The courier will come and pick it up from your location and the product would go back to our warehouse.
