If you’ve no clue what Brazilian waxing really is, it is the epilation of pubic hair around the pubic region with the use of wax. Commonly practised by females, this procedure is done to remove unwanted hair from their bikini line to avoid the hairs from showing after they’ve put on the bottom half of their swimsuit.
After you’ve gone through with your Brazilian waxing appointment, the waxed area should always be treated with special care as it will be extra sensitive and is more prone to aggravations. Hence, we’re sharing with you some post-care tips that will help you take care of your freshly waxed skin, take down the pain factor, and teach you how to minimize the bumps and irritations after your procedure.
1. Keep your hands away from freshly waxed skin for at least 6 hours
Your hair follicle is left open after waxing and your hands and fingernails are the biggest carrier for germs. So, if germs come in contact with the freshly waxed skin, it could cause irritations and even extreme infections.
2. Treat your skin the day after waxing
The day after your procedure, apply some antibiotic cream or aloe vera gel to the area to soothe the skin. To prevent the cream or gel from rubbing away on your underwear, let it sink into the skin for at least 5-10 minutes before wearing any underwear.
3. Do not have intimate contact with the area for at least 6 hours
Abstain from any heavy sexual activity for at least 6 hours as the rubbing and perspiration can cause you irritation. This will be more of an issue if you are new to Brazilian waxing and you’ve just gone through your first ever procedure. If you are used to Brazilian waxing, this irritation will be less likely to happen.
4. No hot showers or baths for at least 12 hours
Your hair follicles are open and direct hot water will enter the hair follicles, causing discomfort and irritation. Worse still, it could lead to infections and unsightly bumps on the skin.
5. Wear very loose clothing for at least 12 hours
You might want to minimize the contact between your skin and clothes after a procedure to avoid friction on the skin. Hence, wear very loose underwear and clothing to avoid bothering your skin while it heals naturally.
6. Do not exercise heavily for at least 24 hours
As mentioned previously, you should avoid heavy perspiration or friction against the skin to keep the area as clean as possible after treatment. After a good 24 hours, you can return to your normal exercise routine.
7. Exfoliate three days after waxing procedure
After three days, you can exfoliate your skin with a gentle body scrub or a rough loofah to remove built up dead skin cells which can clog the skin and trap hair, causing ingrown hairs. However, remember not to exfoliate the area everyday as this could irritate the skin and cause dryness.
8. Moisturise the area after showers
After the skin is waxed, the skin could get dry very easily. So, after showering daily, apply a light moisturiser or lotion onto the skin to keep it hydrated and to soften up the growing hairs that are coming up. This will prevent itchiness and help your skin heal gently.
