The Malaysian Health Ministry has given orders for a cosmetic product called ‘Sensual Meiji Skin Renewer Cream’ to be taken off the shelves, Bernama has reported.
Manufactured in Taiwan, this product has been found to contain azelaic acid, a prohibited poison. According to the ministry’s Senior Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Datuk Eisah A. Rahman, Sensual Meiji Skin Renewer Cream has not been registered with the ministry’s Drug Control Authority, and because it contains azelaic acid, it can only be used after consultation from certified health professionals. Datuk Eisah said,”It is feared that the application of acid without expert advice from health professionals can produce undesired effects. Such as that part of the face which was exposed to the acid in the cream might result in feeling burnt, itchy, turn red and becoming flaky.”
The stocks of this product are to be removed from the market within 72 hours.
