A wedding in Yemen turned into a bloodbath when a guest dancing to “Gangnam Style” shot three people by mistake with his AK-47 as he was trying to shoot in the air to commemorate the happy occasion.
The tragic incident was captured on a cellphone and has been shared on LiveLeak. The video begins with a young man shooting the gun into the air, as Psy’s “Gangnam Style” begins to play. A group of male guests, including the one holding the gun, are seen dancing to the song. As the song reaches the chorus, gunfire is suddenly heard again amid screams as the camera shoots upwards. When it pans back down, bodies are then seen lying on the ground in pools of blood. It ends in a chaotic scene as several guests were running away from the dance area while some others were running towards the injured men.
Although it is illegal in certain parts of Yemen to carry weapons, firing weapons in the air during marriage celebrations is a tradition and common practice. Grooms also often pose for photos with ornamental rifles on their wedding day.
Recently, however, the Sana’a government has tried to ban weapons at weddings because guests started using heavier artillery, including assault rifles, rocket or grenades launchers and anti-aircraft mortars.
What was supposed to be a joyous occasion will now be remembered for something gruesome, and we feel really sorry for the injured men, as well as for the bride and groom.
