Ralph Lauren’s Pink Pony Campaign

20 years ago, American designer Ralph Lauren made a personal and corporate commitment to help find a cure for breast cancer. His past efforts include aiding in the establishment of the Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research at Georgetown University Medical Center, and designing the first ‘target’ logo for the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s international ‘Fashion Targets Breast Cancer’ campaign.

He continued to champion the cause in his own fashion company by establishing the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention in Harlem that provides comprehensive education, screening and diagnostic services for breast and other cancers for the Harlem community. The Pink Pony campaigned was also launched on September 15th 2000 at the Ralph Lauren Spring 2001 Collection fashion show, in which models walked down the runway in Pink Pony shirts.

The annual campaign has seen Pink Pony products with the classic pink icon being made available in Ralph Lauren stores in October. This year, Malaysia is one of the five Asian locations to sell Pink Pony at its Pavilion KL boutique, apart from Hong Kong, Macau, China and Singapore. Contributions made from the sale of Pink Pony products will be donated to programs dedicated to disparities in cancer treatment and increasing access to quality care.

Specifically, 25% of the sales from Pink Pony products and 50% of the Pink Pony Soft Ricky Bag sales in October will be donated to a network of beneficiaries, including the following organizations in Asia:

  • Hong Kong: Hong Kong Cancer Fund
  • China: Shanghai Cancer Recovery Club
  • Singapore: Breast Cancer Foundation
  • Malaysia: National Cancer Society Malaysia
