Lady Gaga has unveiled a colourful cover for her new album ARTPOP that’s set to be released in November 2013. The image features a naked Gaga sitting with a big blue ball between her legs, with her hands cupping her breasts. While it may be shocking to some, those of us who have been following her career aren’t all that surprised – after all, she’s done some pretty crazy things like showing up in a meat dress at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, and coming out of a large, inflatable vagina for her Born This Way Ball concert tour.
ARTPOP’s album cover is a collaboration between Lady Gaga and visual artist and sculptor Jeff Koons, who achieved a world auction record for his ‘Tulips’ sculpture when it was sold for $33,682,500 at a Christie’s auction last year. Gaga has also mentioned the artist in her first single from ARTPOP, ‘Applause’, in which she sings: “One second I’m a Koons, then suddenly the Koons is me.”
Nothing short of taking the term ‘world premiere’ literally, Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP album cover was not only revealed on her website, but also on digital billboards in multiple cities worldwide such as Barcelona, London and Miami.
A lyric video to her song ‘Aura’ is set to be released sometime today on Lady Gaga’s official YouTube channel. A song on Donatella Versace, a close friend of the singer, is also set to appear on the album.
Until we can get our hands on the actual album in November, it’s already up for pre-order on iTunes. Enjoy the video to ‘Applause’ below!
