The Guide to Being Punk Chic for AW13

Punk is not dead, at least not this season. Don’t worry, we wouldn’t want to recommend you something that’s too outrageous or praise styles that only look good on the runway. The punk or grunge-inspired look this season adapts key highlights from the rock ‘n’ roll era but with a sexier and more feminine twist. The trend’s comeback was confirmed when designers like Hedi Slimane, Donatella Versace and Jean Paul Gaultier dressed their models in punk chic designs for their Fall/Winter 2013/14 shows earlier this year.

This season is all about tartan fabrics, leather, tees and oversized accessories. Tartan slouchy trousers are one of the punk chic must-haves this season and is a perfect match for any plain coloured top and a pair of boots. If you want to add a few edgy touches, you can always accessorize with bold and big bracelets. If tartan is not your thing you can always resort to black skinny jeans or leather pants.

If you think pants are too masculine, then you can look through your closet for summer dresses. Match them with an oversized plaid shirt or a leather jacket. Designer Alberta Ferretti showed a more feminine side of heritage rock and roll this season with an elegant tartan embellished shift dress.

Old band tees are very trendy this season too. This is the easiest way to go for punk or grunge inspired looks. Just throw on a band tee and a leather skirt will give you the punk yet chic style.

We have selected a few looks that you can copy, to which applies one rule, and one rule only – bring chic to punk.
