BAT Announces Another Price Hike in Its Cigarette Range

Smokers may feel the pinch in buying themselves a box of nicotine sticks from today onwards as the British American Tobacco (BAT) Malaysia has just announced its revised price list for its cigarette brands.

The new price for a pack of 20 cigarettes for Dunhill, Kent and Benson & Hedges will now cost RM12 each. Pall Mall and Lucky Strike Plains will cost RM12.50; while Peter Stuyvesant cigarettes will cost RM10.50.

This is the second time BAT has announced the price increase in their cigarette brands. In June, Datuk William Toh, Managing Director of BAT Malaysia said the company was facing inflationary pressures, labour and input cots, resulting in the rise of its operating costs.

Meanwhile, Malaysians aren’t pleased with the second price hike in tobacco products, criticizing that blaming tobacco products on health issues won’t do much to stop people from smoking. [¹]

BAT says that the latest price hike of its cigarette range follows a 14% increase in excise duty. [²]
