A gynaecologist in Quebec, Canada is being sued by a couple for $225,000 for making the woman’s post-delivery vagina too tight for sex.

In 2010, the woman had given birth to a baby boy, and then underwent an episiotomy, a procedure to widen the vagina to facilitate the delivery. The operation was performed by Dr. Guy Bolduc.

After noticing an internal vaginal tear, the doctor performed another operation to repair the problem. Advising his patient to avoid sex for six weeks, the new mother did so, but found that the stitches had come apart a month later.

According to the Toronto Sun, the patient and her husband tried to have sex four months after her pregnancy, but realized that the process was extremely painful. Returning to the doctor, she was told by the doctor that “a fairly rigid strip of scarring and narrowing of the vagina preventing penetration.”

The patient opted for vaginal reconstructive surgery, but claims that sex was still painful and still had significant narrowing.

Dr. Bolduc is being sued by the patient for physical harm, pain, stress, frustration and loss of enjoyment of life. Her husband on the other hand, is suing the doctor for $75,000 in damages for pain and suffering. [Source]
