Danone Dumex (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has recently confirmed that all of its infant formula products using the potentially contaminated ingredient supplied by Fonterra are safe, and always were safe.

On August 3rd, Danone Dumex Malaysia was informed by Fonterra that some of the ingredients supplied to Danone Dumex may have been contaminated with Clostridium botulinum due to a faulty pipe.

Toni Brendish, Managing Director of Danone Dumex (M) Sdn Bhd said:

“I fully understand the precautionary recall has been a very stressful time for all Malaysian mums, dads and carers and I am very pleased that I can now give them some good news. The precautionary recall has been successfully completed and the additional testing on the affected batches has confirmed the products are safe. Consumer safety is our top priority and we always put children first”.

The Ministry of Health reviewed the test results and assessed Danone Dumex manufacturing facility and found that the company undergoes stringent quality processes. All raw materials used have certificates of analysis from the suppliers and the company conducts its own analysis of each batch of raw material to ensure safety.

“Safety of our consumers always is and always will be our number one priority and something on which we will never compromise,” Toni commented. “Our global company mission is to ‘Stand by Mums to Nurture new lives’ and it has been our guiding principle throughout this crisis. We have taken some big decisions over the past few weeks, but given the information supplied to us Fonterra at the time, and in close coordination and with the support of the local authorities, the right decision to initiate a precautionary recall. If the same situation, presented itself again, I would have no hesitation to take the same decision, as we cannot and will not compromise when it comes to the safety of babies”.

Toni confirmed that all Danone Dumex products that were recalled are officially safe for consumption. For further information, mothers and carers can contact their Customer Careline at 1800 38 1038.
