Fashion royalty Karl Lagerfeld joined hands with Brazilian brand MELISSA in a first collaboration to produce a collection of plastic shoes. It was also the designer’s first time to work with this unusual material. “I had never worked with plastic in this way before. It’s not the classic technique; I am used to working with more traditional techniques for Fendi, Chanel and Lagerfeld shoes. My inspiration was the native country of the brand, celebrating the Brazilian ‘joie de vivre’ ”, said Karl Lagerfeld.
The collection was showcased earlier this month at the official opening of the Melissa flagship store at The Gardens Mall, Kuala Lumpur. There are four designs in the Melissa + Karl Lagerfeld collection:
Melissa Ginga + Karl Lagerfeld – This range of strapped heeled shoes honours Brazil with a colour palette inspired by the country’s native flag.
Melissa Incense + Karl Lagerfeld – A personal favourite among the Lipstiq.com girls, these heels are fun and playful – something that the designer reserves for special pieces in his collection. The highlight is the back of the heel, where a shiny ice-cream cone shape can be found with glitter application.
Melissa Glam + Karl Lagerfeld – If basic chic defines your style, the Melissa Glam would suit you. A pointed flat ballerina shoe, its front part features an application with three transparent spheres and is available various metallic tones: white, black, grey, silver and gold.
Melissa Melissima + Karl Lagerfeld – Lagerfeld has given plastic shoes an elegant re-invention with the Melissima range. The pointed shoes come with a barely-there heel and double ankle straps for a graceful yet stylish look. Colour options for this range are: black, grey, burgundy, beige and matte blue.
