Malaysian student activist, Adam Adli Halim has been remanded for five days until May 23 following his arrest for sedition. According to City police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohmad Salleh said Halim was remanded to help police investigate Adam Adli on statements he made during a May 13 forum that was organized by Suara Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) where he said that Malaysians “cannot wait for five years to overthrow UMNO and BN”.

Eye-witnesses reported he was picked up by about ten plain-clothed policemen outside a grocery shop at Bangsar and was driven off in a large four-wheel-drive to the Jinjiang police detention centre.

He also made headlines for bringing down a flag beating a picture of the Prime Minister outside UMNO headquarters at the Putra World Trade Centre in 2011.

Subsequent to his arrest, an overnight candlelight vigil was held in front of the Jinjang police remand centre as a form of protest against Halim’s arrest.
