DJ Patrick Oliver is no stranger to the Malaysian party scene. In 2007, he became the resident DJ in Kuala Lumpur’s super club, Euphoria by Ministry of Sound London. On top of booking some of the biggest DJ talent in Malaysia, Patrick was also headlining KL and Malaysia’ biggest and best nightclub and festival events. He’s also been booked at clubs in Italy, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India China, Taiwan, and Malaysia. Opening, performing and playing alongside such accomplished artists such as Louie Vega, Deadmau5, Dash Berlin, Kaskade, LMFAO, TV Rock, Pitbull, Armand Van Heldan, Kaskade. In 2011, Patrick became the resident DJ at the ultra-luxe ultralounge, Pangaea and music director for Avalon in Singapore.
Just recently, Patrick stopped by Kuala Lumpur to spice up the dance floor at the Butter Factory for Belvedere Vodka’s Passion for Fashion. We got in touch with the DJ mega-star for a quick word.
Q. Do you have a favorite female DJ? If so, who?
No, I don’t really have a perspective of a DJ being defined by if they are male or female. But I would have to say I appreciate female DJ’s that are qualified and successful based on their ability to DJ and song selection rather than their appearance.
Q. How do you like the crowd in Malaysia? Do you find them different compared to other international crowds?
Malaysian crowds are great, so much energy and enthusiasm. Also Malaysia is very much up to date on their music.
Q. Would you like to collaborate with any other fellow musicians? If so, who would it be?
Probably artists that aren’t in the dance music scene. More acoustic musicians or vocalist from different genres. Also working with artists from different cultures and countries would be great.
Q. How would you describe the relationship between music and fashion?
I suppose that both music and fashion are means of artistic expression. They definitely compliment each other and are components of how people express themselves as individuals.
