Wet dreams are defined as erotic dreams that one would have as they sleep, resulting to mild lubrication in the genital area. Men could often orgasm at the point of a wet dream, but it’s a little different for women. When a woman has a wet dream, the vagina is lubricated as she’s sexually-aroused by her dream. They’re perfectly normal and not harmful and has nothing to do with lack of sex or an overactive sex drive. Fewer than 10% of women compared to 50% of women report to having wet dreams more than 5 times a year.

A lot of people still see wet dreams as an embarrassing part of themselves, but the truth is, they shouldn’t. Being aware of your body and your sexuality brings a great deal of benefits to your well-being. Here are ten things everyone should know about wet dreams.

1. Wet dreams are absolutely normal and common at any age, generally after one hits puberty. They’re believed to happen when the body is not getting release from hormonal build-up or sudden ‘dry spells’ in sexually active individuals.

2. It’s not uncommon for women to have wet dreams though not as common or often as men.

3. Wet dreams are not drug induced, however sleeping pills have also been known to cause some intense dreams. If you are on sleeping pills, take note of the dreams you have at night.

4. Masturbation has been known to put a stop to wet dreams, however it won’t necessarily will.

5. Experts believe that wet dreams often happen frequently due to extreme stress. There’s no proof or answer behind the reasons why wet dreams can happen frequently when you’re stressed, but many women have admitted to have frequent wet dreams when they’re stressed.

6. People often have wet dreams regarding taboo subjects like incest, animals, sex, rape, homoeroticism and more. However, this doesn’t mean you want to do these things or secretly want them. The mind soars once in a while but it has nothing to do with your waking sexual preference.

7. Wet dreams have no way of telling whether your heterosexual or homosexual. Many people believe that these dreams are one of the many factors of one’s sexual preference, but it’s not proven. Wet dreams you have do not represent your sexuality.

8. Having lots of wet dreams does not mean you’re sexually abnormal, inadequate, or a sexual deviant. It doesn’t make you a pervert either, so don’t worry too much about it.

9. One should never feel guilting about having wet dreams. Treat it like any dream – they’re subconscious and they can’t really be controlled or manipulated. Unless if you have one recurring dream from time to time, it might be time to talk to an expert.

10. A lot of women wished they had more wet dreams. Men have wet dreams more often than women do, but it is said that wet dreams can serve as a great way for women to explore their sexuality without acting on it.
