Makeup has become a must-have for every woman (and some men!) on a daily basis. It helps cover up your flaws and scars, and help enchance your best features. However, you need to get rid of all of it before you head to bed. Makeup is a very tricky when it comes to removing and it may seem like it’s all gone but there might be excess make up still on your skin that can cause damage. As much as store bought make up removers are awesome (and a life saver!), from time to time, you should make an effort to treat your skin with some natural home made products that work just as amazingly as well. Here are a few things you probably already have in your home that can be used to remove make up.
1. Olive Oil
It’s recommended though to use the extra virgin olive oil, as normal olive oil can be a bit too ‘heavy’ and cause break outs. This works very similar to a make up remover. Just dab the olive oil on a cotton ball and gently wipe away make up off your face and eyes. Make sure you do it gently, but enough to remove all the excess make up off your skin. Olive oil has deep penetrating properties not only moisturize your skin but also help brighten and smoothen your skin.
2. Cucumber
Cucumber has been used time and time again for it’s cooling properties, and to get rid of eye bags. Peel a cucumber, mash it and add a bit of water and apply it on your face. Cucumber on it’s own has natural moisture and the seeds act as an exfoliation tool. Gently scrub away the make up, and rinse with water. Not only will it remove the make up, but also it’ll leave your skin feeling refreshed and clean.
3. Almond Milk
Pure almond oil works wonders when it comes to make up removal, especially eye make up. Almond oil has a lot of properties which include vitamin E (contains antioxidants and skin protective properties) that will help sooth your skin as well as keep it healthy. All you need is to apply it on a cotton ball and gently wipe off the make up in circular motions. This should be repeated several times to ensure all make up is removed off your skin.
4. Baby Oil
This is a perfect and effective eye make up remover. It can be used for the entire face, but it has to be used sparingly as it may not be the best for your skin. However we’d recommend this for just the eyes. All you need it to use very little (I’ll say it again, very little). Just use a little bit of it on a cotton ball or a facial tissue, and gently rub it over the eye area while your eyes are closed. Repeat until you are absolutely sure you’ve removed it. This works especially well for hard to remove mascaras.
5. Petroleum Jelly and Aloe Vera
This powereful combination make up remover is great for removing foundation and face make up, and also gentle on your skin. The petroleum jelly (though it is quite heavy) helps moisturize skin as it cleans, and the aloe vera helps cool down, acts as a anti-bacterial and helps cut any sticky residue. However it is advised to fully wash, it all off and moisturize as leaving on petroleum jelly could clog your pores.
