Common Mistakes We Make with Eye Makeup

“The eyes are the windows to the soul”, they say and having healthy-looking eyes could probably get your far in life. Apart from lipsticks, eye makeup is probably the first thing that gets us women excited, especially with its myriad of colors, functions and tools. And as excited as you may get, it’s good to know just about all the common mistakes one could make when applying eye makeup. Keep your eye makeup fresh by avoiding these common mistakes.

Using Foundation Instead of Primer
Some people apply foundation instead of a primer before applying eye makeup, and trust us, that’s one major no-no. After applying concealer, use a primer as it’ll keep the eye makeup from melting off if the weather gets too hot. Foundation has the potential to smudge, and when combined with heat and perspiration, it’ll only be a breeding ground for bacteria.

Clashing Bold Colors
It’s fine if you want to go with bright and bold colors to keep up with this season’s makeup trends, but remember to keep it to one bold color, or two at most. If you’re going with two colors, opt for colors with the same undertones that’s either a tone darker or lighter to help highlight your brow bone and crease.

Not Applying Eyeliner
If you’re applying eyeshadow, it won’t necessarily bring out your eyes as much if you skip the eyeliner. Whether it’s just a thin line using a liquid liner or lining it with kohl underneath, skipping eyeliner will make all that effort on your eyeshadow go to waste.

Overdoing It With Eyeshadow
A lot of eyeshadows come in different levels of pigmentation, and that’s generally based on the brands, color and texture. When applying darker colors especially, start with smaller amounts so that you can control just the right amount of color you want on your eyes. Start little by little, that way you can still make any corrections. This is also important to make sure that the makeup looks balanced on both eyes. You don’t want one eye looking more prominent than the other.

Using Dirty Tools
Dirty makeup tools like brushes and puffs should be cleaned at least once a week. On top of it being incredibly unhygienic while causing breakouts, it’ll also keep your colors accurate. Your new layer of eyeshadow may end up in a different shade thanks to the leftover from the last makeup experiment. So keep your brushes clean by washing them in warm water and gentle soap.

Forgetting to Conceal
Concealer is especially important to help make your eyes appear brighter, especially if you’re going for a dark and smokey eye look. To find the right color for you, look for a shade that’s exactly one shade lighter than your foundation.
