Spring Summer 2013 takes us back to the Seventies and the years of a young Mulberry brand. In the setting of an irreverent English garden a decadent medley of flora and fauna blends with luscious fresh colour and tropical-inspired prints, mixing up a laid back spectrum of sorbet shades and exotic inspiration with the covetable luxury of Mulberry’s rural English craft heritage.
The colour palette draws from the influences of traditional and rural England. A concise spectrum of school-uniform neutrals takes in Navy, Biscuit Brown, Natural Tan and Black, from which explodes a kaleidoscope of ethereal countryside-inspired blossom pastels Nude, Pear Sorbet, Light Berry Cream and Light Peach, alongside intense flora-inspired Bright Apricot and Mint.
It’s all about English florals meet tropical geckos on an irreverent new design scaled up and printed as a gradient repeat throughout the collection.
Womenswear
Key silhouettes allude to Seventies shapes and tailoring, re-imagined through Mulberry’s eyes, and a signature of layering textures weaves its way through the collection. Leather is a significant influence for outerwear and the season also sees a development of the design juxtaposition between the structured and relaxed, with bonded leather and jacquard pieces contrasting with fluid volumes for mixed-up silhouettes.
Coats find inspiration in classic English military wear, finished with iconic Mulberry detailing in both heritage and seasonal colours. Oversized bikers and Peacoats are borrowed from the boys, sweetened with fresher colours in head-to-toe colour and print blocked looks. The application of pleats and frills on summer dresses is a key fabric motif. Indicative of casual Seventies silhouettes, hems fall to the floor or below the knee and embroidery and pleating create flirty, lightweight shapes, enveloped in luxe prints and fabrics. Trousers find life in contrasting textures: generous-legged in silk, super-luxe in butter soft leather and structured in Spring Summer 2013’s bespoke and textural highlight jacquard; emulating key prints and colours in its hand-woven thread.
Accessories
The focal point of the new Willow collection is the Willow Tote, a structured bag featuring the signature Mulberry’s Postman’s Lock, zips and padlock fob. The tote has a front face envelope clutch that can be zip-detached, fulfilling two multi-wear functions in one style. Available in a myriad of seasonal tones, the tote also introduced in luxuriously glossy Alligator in White or Black. The Postman’s Lock is reworked with petals, as a nod to rural England. The Cecily with Flower is Spring Summer 2013 Catwalk Collection an update of our icon Lily, with a heavy woven chain strap and handle, finished with gorgeous tactile leather and a cookie-cutter raw edge, while the Flower Tote has the same flower lock and trim on a classic tote bag, covered in a laser-cut floral repeat. The Spring Summer 2013 design motifs provide a new dimension to the Del Rey and Alexa collections. The floral gecko theme adds an exotic edge to our carefully crafted classics, leather-printed for the Del Rey and on artisan-woven silky jacquard for Alexa.
