UPDATE: One Utama Shopping Centre updated their official Facebook Page 3 hours ago and released an official statement regarding the minor fire that had happened last night.
At around 8.00pm, the mall suffered a power supply outage by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) which the mall had unfortunately no control over. The power is fully restored by 8.50pm. 10 minutes later, which was a minor fire that broke out at the mall’s garden rooftop shed. The fire alarm was set off and the safety personnel rushed to extinguish the fire, with Bomba authorities notified and arriving shortly after.
The minor fire did not spread to other areas of the mall, and there were no casualties. However there was still heavy smoke lingering on the rooftop due to rain and wind during this time.
Last night at around 9pm, it was reported that a small area in the One Utama shopping mall was on fire.
This prompt news came on the shopping centre went viral via Twitter as several patrons who were at the theathre and the car park areas began to tweet and upload pictures the moment the fire broke out.
The Fire and Rescue Department was called on to the scene and put out the fire within 30 minutes. The assitant director, Mohamad Sani Harul has confirmed the incident and said that the fire was believe to have started from the children’s play ground store – which is located on the fifth floor of the shopping centres new wing.
It was because of this minor fire that the shopping mall suffered from a power outage. Mohamad added that the fire department recieved the report about the fire from the shopping centre’s management at around 9pm.
No casualties were reported due to this incident and the loss has yet to be assessed.
