Earlier this week, we announced the winner of the ‘Bella Official Correspondent’ search for the inaugural Bella Awards. 19-year-old Ashley Chan will be on the red carpet with Nazrudin Rahman, speaking to celebrity guests and industry hotshots on Saturday, March 2nd during the glamorous awards ceremony.
The search for Bella’s Official Correspondent saw six finalists facing different challenges in front of three judges: Intan Noorbaizura, ntv7’s Executive Producer, and radio duo Phat Fabes and Ben. Mass Communication student Ashley emerged to be the best choice to co-host the Red “Sparkle” Carpet and Lipstiq.com managed to sit down with her for a while to get to know this beautiful lass of English and Chinese descent!
Q: Growing up, did you always dream about maybe become a host of a television show or event?
Ashley: Always. I knew in high school that I wanted to be in this line; I couldn’t see myself doing anything else.
Q: Who do you look up to/who inspired you to do what you do?
Ashley: My parents definitely played a major role. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their encouragement and support. I was brought up to always strive to reach my full potential and follow my dreams.
Q: If you could change one thing about how women’s issues in Malaysia, what would you choose to do, and why?
Ashley: Discrimination against women in general. I want to change the mindset that women can’t be the best that they can be in whatever they want to do.
Q: Now that you’ve been chosen as the Bella Official Correspondent, what does it feel like to be stand out among other competitiors?
Ashley: It’s amazing, I’m so excited. It’s such an honour to be a part of the Bella Awards.
Q: From winning the title as the Bella Official Correspondent, will it be a platform for you to pursue a career in the same field?
Ashley: Definitely, this is such an amazing opportunity and I hope it will be a springboard into the industry.
Q: Tell us, what motivates you to be the person that you are?
Ashley: I must always give my best in whatever that I do.
Q: Is there a philosophy that you live by?
Ashley: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. I believe in respecting and accepting each other despite all our differences.
I also have a favorite quote that really inspires me:
“Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swamps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists.. it is real.. it is possible.. it’s yours.” – Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
Q: What are you most excited about the inaugural Bella Awards 2013?
Ashley: Just to be there at the first ever women’s award show, which celebrates and recognises the achievements of Malaysian women; and to be a part it, it is going to be an amazing experience. And of course, there’s Ronan Keating! *laughs*
We wish Ashley all the best, we’re sure she’ll do a great job! Don’t forget to tune in to ntv7 on March 2nd at 8:30pm to watch the Bella Awards live on your tv screen. You can also check it out online at www.ntv7.com.my/bellaawards.
