Our Review
Needless to say, the movie poster is already making its statement that this film is not for the faint-hearted but we think this movie is definitely worth a watch!
We always found it exciting and refreshing to watch a sci-fi movie, especially when the movie involves the unknown creatures from outer space that scientists can’t explain and prove their existence. From the producer of Paranormal Activities and Sinister, Dark Skies is supernatural thriller film that let us watch a family’s life turned into a living hell with the unexplained events that happened to Barret’s family.
The film kicked off with a small family of four with typical family problems and financial struggles especially since the father of the house, Daniel Barrett (played by Josh Hamilton) lost his job. Well, the movie did start out a little boring with the expected arguments between the parents that turned bad until unexplained strange events took place in their house. So, the real thing begins here as they are now facing something bigger than any of the family problems.
First, the mother of the house, Lacy (played by Keri Russell) woke up in the middle of the night and found food items in the kitchen were piled up in the kitchen that formed a weird symbol on the ceiling of the kitchen. Then there’s “Sandman” which was never seen by any of the family members except the youngest son of the family Sammy (played by Kadan Rockett). As if being possessed by a ghost, the members of family started to get unusual behaviour and strange allergies unknowingly and experience time lost for no apparent reason.
The father who refuses to believe his wife’s idea of aliens then decided to put up CCTVs in every single corner of the house and stayed up late at night to find out what’s happening in the house. It was until the father saw these things with his own eyes that they finally decided to seek help and advice from the expert. The expert then told them it is impossible to escape from these creatures except for a few cases that the family was able to get rid of them with family unity. The task seems easy but with the eldest son of the family, Jesse (played by Dakota Goyo) still being a rebellious teenager, the parents must find a way to save their family from these unknown creatures.
We don’t want to reveal much spoiler here but this film did ended dramatically which is totally out of our expectation. Although there are a lot of cliché moments in the film, but there’s not a single dull moment in this movie when anything could possibly happen to them unexpectedly. We literally sat on the edge of the chair and covered our eyes with our fingers that still allowed us to catch a glimpse of what’s going to happen next. We must say the director has effectively used the sound effects that literally made us jump out of our seats with a sudden scream and loud thump. But then again, without these sound effects, the film might not look as scary as it seems so the director has done a pretty good job with the choices of sound.
So, will the parents get the family united and save themselves from the aliens? That’s for you to find out when the movie is released in cinema on 28th February 2013 (Thursday)!
Anyway, here’s the trailer of the movie for you to catch a glimpse of what’s going to happen to Barrett’s family!
