A few weeks ago, the Lipstiq.com team had a chance to review the Volkswagen Polo Sedan, thanks to the folks at Volkswagen Group Malaysia. The Polo Sedan was launched last year by Volkswagen Passengers Cars Malaysia (a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group Malaysia) to provide Malaysians with a more affordable continental car.

We had a few days with the Polo Sedan, and decided that the best way to get a feel of it was to incorporate it in our daily working schedule. The working life of a person in our industry revolves mostly around meetings, interviews and events, so the Polo Sedan was a good companion for us as we had to drive to different places on a single day. Here’s what we think of it in terms of design and comfort!
Our first impression:
Its well designed and clean lines result in a simple yet sleek exterior, which in our opinion, is very typical of Volkswagen. The interior at first glance is spacious – it fits five people comfortably and backseat passengers have enough leg room.
Driving experience:
Driving it was easy and smooth – the Polo Sedan has a 6-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic function for those who want a manual feel. Having to go to multiple events over the course of a few days was tiring, so we took turns to be the driver. A plus point for us was the comfortable driving experience: not only are the driver and front passenger seats height-adjustable, the steering wheel (tilt and telescopic) was modifiable, as well.
What else do we love about the Volkswagen Polo Sedan?
There’s sufficient storage in the front for our morning coffee, our handbags, make-up pouches, and more – basically everything a girl on-the-go needs to last a day of running from one event to another. The centre console includes two cup holders, and the storage compartment of the front doors include cupholders for our 1.5 litre water bottles – something that’s important for us for hydration purposes!
There are vanity mirrors on both the driver’s and the passenger’s sides, with illumination for different brightness levels. For us, this feature deserves a ‘thumbs up’ because the Lipstiq.com ladies had to touch up on make-up before each event and appointment – we need to make sure we look good, after all!
While driving around Kuala Lumpur, we noticed that the Polo Sedan had a good sound insulation – we could talk comfortably with each other and answer phone calls without loud noises interrupting us from the outside. Apropos sound, the car comes with a build-in radio with CD-MP3/WMA player and four speakers – it’s fairly basic but good enough to entertain us during the rides to events.
For shopaholics, here’s good news: the 454 litres of boot space is big enough to fit a lot of shopping bags – we stored a few outfits in there so we could change our attire to suit a variety of dress codes. The boot lid can be opened remotely with a key remote that also controls the car’s central locking. By the way, the key is foldable so it can easily fit in a clutch or small handbag!
