8 Chic Tips to Green Living

If you haven’t heard, green is the new black! Environmental living is now inspiring the world as the trend is all about giving more life to Earth. If you’d like to get into the habit of green living, it’s not a really difficult lifestyle to maintain. Apart from recycling (good job if you do), there are so much more ways to save the Earth without having to break the bank, or having to hug trees.

1. Plant a Tree

A single tree will absorb over a ton of carbon dioxide in it’s lifetime. So, where it’s a little cactus sitting on your desk, or a pretty potted plant by your television, a little green indoors should give you fresh air and a dash of nature’s warmth.

2. Go Organic

Eating organic and free-range could not only benefit your health as organic produce are grown without the use of pesticides and fertilizers that could damage the nervous system and internal organs. So, look for organic farmers in your town and support free-range meat and organic fruits and veggies.

3. Wear Green

Organic is not only limited to food, but fashion too. Various fashion labels are giving shoppers the option to buy fair-trade clothing, and even organic cotton denim that do not require high-impact wash. 4. Bring Your Own Shopping Bag

As Saturdays are officially No Plastic Bag Days in Malaysia, make it your own personal goal to make everyday a No Plastic Bag Day. Carry your own foldable and reusable shopping bag in your handbag so you can refuse whenever someone hands you a plastic bag for your daily grocery shopping.

5. Buy Cruelty-Free

Shopping for cruelty-free beauty brands is one of ways to boosting your eco-chic cred. Start opting for brands that are against animal testing – simply look for the Leaping Bunny logo, or a statement that confirms the product is not tested on animals. Your part may not end it, but at least you make it clear to the world that it is not okay to let our furry friends suffer.

6. Revamp and Mend

Start bringing new life into your old things! Not only do you end some saving a lot of cash, but as they say “Someone’s trash is another person’s treasure”. Turn your old t-shirts into tank tops or even mini dresses. Buying vintage or second hand is also a great option, or you can even organize a clothes swap with your friends.

7.Drive Less

Whether it’s carpooling, walking or taking public transportation, you can minimize your carbon footprint just by decreasing just how much you carbon you emit with regards to fuel. You can also minimize your carbon footprint by cutting down the time you spend on your computer or how long you have the air-condition switched on.

8. Plant Your Own

If you’re one to blend your own herbs and spices for cooking, make your own herb garden at home. Herbs like chilies, basil, mint and pandan can grow on regular soil, but if you’re growing parsley and rosemary, a hydroponic pot might be helpful. This not only gives you extra points in your contribution to carbon absorption, but this also means that you don’t have to make a last minute run to the supermarket with you car. And besides, who wouldn’t want a house smelling like a garden anyways?
