A 46- year-old woman died in Hong Kong after receiving a treatment that was done at a beauty parlour.

It is said that this woman receieved a DC-CIK treatment at a beauty parlor and the procedure for this treatment involved the “concentration and processing of blood taken from the person, and subsequent infusion of the mixture back into the patient.” (source)

It is said that this treatment was meant to be for cancer patients and it is meant to cure or heal cancer – but according to the Hong Kong Health Department, in order to get this treatment you must be diagnosed with cancer, though the Hong Kong Health Department said in an earlier statement that the 46-year-old had been in “good past health.”

The women who under went the DC-CIK treatment paid around HK$50,000 ($6,400) for the procedure, which experts say is at best an experimental treatment for cancer patients and which has not shown to have any aesthetic application so far. (source)

This 46-year-old who was affect by this but three other ladies who entered the beauty parlour also came out ill and are in critical condition. It’s not clear whether any of these women received the treatment. These three others, aged 56, 59 and 60, were in hospital with the eldest in critical condition. The four quickly fell ill with fever, dizziness and diarrhea. In an earlier blood sample taken from the woman who died, health officials found Mycobacterium abscessus, a superbug that is notoriously difficult to kill.

Although the direct cause of the woman’s death has yet to be confirmed, experts say it is likely to have been bacterial infection.
