Heartronics Sdn Bhd in partnership with Maxis Sdn Bhd and Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur recently launched its Electrocardiogram monitoring device which incorporates ECG capabilities onto a mobile phone . The phone was designed to promote early detection of potential heart problems and to provide an essential link between patients and their medical professionals.

The EPI Life was also designed and developed for the convenience and safety of not just heart patients, but also those who belong to the “at-risk” group and others who want to manage their health better.

The device just requires you to place your three fingers on the phone and the results will be sent immediately via GPRS to the staffs of Pantai Medical Centre. The ECG reading will be sent via SMS to the patient’s phone within a few minutes and if abnormalities are detected, then users will be prompted to seek medical advice.

According to the Consultant Cardiologist from PHKL, Dr David Quek, “symptoms can sometimes be short and transient and people may not even realize that what they are experiencing could be heart-related problems. In many instances, patients see a doctor only after the symptoms have abated.”

YB Datuk Rosnah Binti Hj Abdul Rashid Shirlin, the State Health Director claimed that people need to be proactive when it comes to caring for their cardio health even if they feel they are reasonably fit and healthy. In Malaysia, heart disease still remains as the primary cause of death and other associated risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity are also on the rise.

For every ECG which is sent to the device, customers will be charged RM13 while the device is retailed at RM2,299. The EPI Life phone will be available at Maxis Centres located in KLCC, TTDI, Sunway Pyramid and The Gardens.
