Being a mother in this modern era can be pretty challenging especially when it comes to dealing with teenagers. The moment they reach the age of 12, you would realize that they have become more bold and brave to voice out their opinions. Something which you should actually be proud of but at the same time, they can drive you up the wall as well.
As much as you can, you would like to protect your princess at home but most of the time, mothers fail to realize that children need to make their own mistake to learn their lesson. A lesson which is learned from a mistake would have a greater impact in their lives.
Here are five things which you should avoid saying to your teenage daughters. Some children would interpret these messages differently and that is when you would find yourself in a real dilemma especially when they decide to do something really foolish such as killing themselves or running away from home.
“I’m the wiser one here”
Teenage daughters tend to interpret this sentence as “my mum knows nothing.” You may know more about the world, but do you really know what your daughter is going through at school? Smaller things matter more to them and if you are asking yourself today why isn’t your daughter talking to you, then this is one of the reasons.

“As long as you’re under my roof, you can’t do that”
In your teenagers mind, this is the message which she gets – “I need to get out from this place when I receive my first pay cheque.” Re word that phrase and perhaps you should tell her that you are not in favour of her doing it as it would make you feel really uncomfortable. See how she reacts to that then. She would probably end up understanding you better.
“You should only focus on your studies for now”
It is every parents dream to see their children grow up and become successful. But you certainly do not want your daughter growing up and becoming nerds to the extend they do not know anything about the outside world at all. Let them have their fun and help them manage their time better instead.

“No boyfriends allowed”
Hmmm.. ladies, you may not want your kids to have boyfriends but their hormones can be telling them something entirely different. Instead of telling them that they can’t have any boyfriends, it would be better if you got to know who they are dating so that you can judge the guy for yourself.
“Life is as such”
Your teenage daughter would probably never understand the meaning of this sentence at all. She would probably interpret it as “I’m left with nothing in life.” Do remember that teenagers tend to get extremely emotional very fast. Instead of leaving her with that hopeless feeling, let her know that although life may seem to be hard, there is a solution to every problem.
