It’s true – you don’t always have to keep a look out for the “popularly known for an eccentric taste in couture” celebrities to be perfectly aware that sometimes, fashion gets a little bit too loud. And weird. While we’re all okay with making fashion statements, we’re not always okay with making fashion embarrassments.
Remember the 2012 Grammy Awards when Nicki Minaj rocked up looking like a high priestess?
If we remember correctly, Nicki then went on to showcase an epic exorcism-themed performance during the awards later that night. Awkward.
And let’s not forget the epic time when Lady Gaga decided to show up at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in this:
Yes, the famous “meat dress” that got the world talking even until today. She might as well have lathered herself up with glue and rolled on eggshells. It wouldn’t have made a difference.
That said, we’re still not sure how this outfit got voted as one of TIME magazine’s “Top 10 Fashion Statements” despite how it drew fierce criticism from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). It goes to show that however loud, crude, weird, obnoxious, or gross an outfit is, it can still stand as part of fashion and couture.
But of course, using Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga as a basis of comparison might be taking it a little too far. C’mon, who in the right mind would walk around wearing slabs of meat aside from Gaga herself, right?
So let’s now take a look at other weird outfits that were spotted over several fashion shows and catwalks:
Some people carry the weight of the world on their shoulders. Others carry a castle.
We’re pretty sure this is meant to look “princessy” but unfortunately, it just looks like a tie-dye experiment gone horribly wrong.
Just in case you forget where your lungs are.
What is that? More importantly, can the model see where she’s going?
And finally, if the designer was going for the “Medusa look” then we have only one thing to say to him/her – you’re doing it wrong.
