The final chapter in the story of Othertopias – a collection of six fragrances inspired by worlds that transcend our immediate perception – is a celebration of endings.
Ouranon Eau de Parfum signals the return home in preparation for new beginnings with a scent that summons images of a monolith lit by embers unfurling into a starry sky. Like the eroding vestiges of a stone circle whose precise meaning has been lost to time, it evokes the yearning to reach out beyond this world and transcend the finite nature of existence.
Fillion notes: ‘Ouranon is also about transcendence, similarly to Gloam Eau de Parfum which embodies the state where thoughts turn inwards as the outside world recedes. Here, with Ouranon, we are going to the end, and we really let go, we enter a new cycle—looking at civilisations from the past or questioning the future.’
The Othertopias aromas reveal worlds through scent like so many fragrant doorways to the undiscovered. Ouranon Eau de Parfum completes the collection: Miraceti, Karst, and Erémia Eaux de Parfum were introduced in 2021; Eidesis Eau de Parfum the following year; and Gloam Eau de Parfum in 2023.
The Fragrance
Created by Aesop’s long-term fragrance collaborator, Barnabé Fillion, Ouranon is an interplay of permanence and evanescence via earthy minerality, incandescent spices, and ritualistic, resinous woods.
The woody, earthy, and spicy aroma opens with the sparkling citrus of Petitgrain alongside the green, vibrant spice of Elemi and fresh, almost camphoraceous notes of Lavender Flower. These gradually recede to reveal the vast expanse of warm aromatics that make up the fragrance’s heart – resonant herbaceous notes of Chamomile, amplified by Hay and underpinned by rich, resinous Frankincense. Ouranon’s final act alludes to silent monoliths casting shadows in the moonlight – steeped in ambery warmth, Myrrh exudes enduring minerality, descending into the powerful and dark earthiness of Patchouli and rich, rounded notes of Tonka.
