Gotta love a skincare brand that cares about nature as much as it does your skin. Skincare is essential – but little did you know that their plastic packaging is choking up the earth, because some of it is not biodegradable, and end up in landfills or waterways. As consumers, we are all part of the problem.
Will there ever be a skincare brand that pays heed to the anguished cries of nature? The answer is ‘yes’ and it’s CETAPHIL® Malaysia. To underscore this, CETAPHIL®, the #1 dermatological skincare brand in Malaysia, recently launched its Clear Skies Project in hopes of doubling efforts to embed responsible practices across its business.
Just like how we treat our skin delicately, with care and compassion as well as with the help of science, this initiative will set a guide for CETAPHIL to journey towards promoting a world with a healthier environment and
brighter future by incorporating smarter packaging to reduce environmental impact – CETAPHIL® Malaysia.
The event took place at Boathouse, Ampang, and marked not only the launch of the Clear Skies Project, but also Galderma and CETAPHIL® reaffirming their commitment to clinically-proven sensitive skincare with new and refined formulas that promote skin science.
The Galderma-owned brand is reformulating its best-selling and well-known products with cleaner
formulas to meet consumers’ needs and demands – while still maintaining the same trusted effectiveness and
sensorial experience CETAPHIL is best known for. The Gentle Skin Cleanser, Oily Skin Cleanser, Moisturising Cream, Moisturising Lotion and the Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion, are now upgraded to science-backed blends of ingredients, including niacinamide (Vitamin B3), panthenol (Vitamin B5) and hydrating Glycerin.
These upgraded formulas are completely free of parabens, sulfates and animal origin ingredients, and are not tested on animals whatsoever throughout the stages of product innovation, development and manufacturing.
Together, Galderma and CETAPHIL are focusing on their goal of achieving 100% renewable energy in their current factories this year; while prioritising being carbon neutral in their production facilities. The Country Manager of Galderma Malaysia also shared that it is highly important for the brand to not only meet their consumers’ needs, but to also exceed current standards that consumers expect from a sensitive skincare brand.
“As the leading sensitive skin specialist with 75 years of heritage, we provide complete care for all skin types while delivering our commitment to innovation. In a bid to meet today’s consumer needs, we believe our new and improved formulas will allow us to do just that.” – Cindy Tiu, Country Manager of Galderma Malaysia.
As CETAPHIL is a well-known brand that caters to treating sensitive skin, it has made an admirable initiative in the brand’s mission – to continuously contribute to short-term and long-term environmental change.
“We know that the health of our skin is a reflection of our environment, which is why the brand is working towards being cleaner, more sustainable and more efficient – using fewer resources and creating less waste. Our journey to become more sustainable started over a decade ago, and we are now doubling efforts to reduce impact on the environment,” Cindy Tiu, Country Manager of Galderma Malaysia.
A Cetaphil event is not complete without their brand ambassador, of course – the drop-dead gorgeous Malaysian actress, Lisa Surihani, who graced the event in a white and light blue outfit. Lisa has not only been the brand ambassador for Cetaphil for the past 5 years, she is also a loyal CETAPHIL consumer.
Lisa was asked how she makes her skin look so glowy, supple and beautiful. She said that she has been religiously using CETAPHIL and has even introduced the brand’s body care line to her children. It was such an amazing experience hearing this dedicated woman give her testimony.
Besides creating formulations with cleaner ingredients, the Clear Skies approach is based on two other key pillars:
- Smarter Packaging: Products used are mostly mono-material containers with closures that are in part recyclable, so that containers and packaging can be recycled at most facilities. Paper-based packaging is made with renewable and biodegradable materials.
- Reducing Environmental Impact: Since 2020, Galderma and CETAPHIL have reduced water consumption by 33% per ton per product. The company has also reduced annual CO2 emissions from factories by over 60% by using more efficient technology and renewable resources of electricity. Currently, 95% of the electricity that powers its factories come from renewable resources, and none of the waste from
factories ends up in a landfill.
CETAPHIL has been protecting and caring for sensitive skin for more than 75 years. As Clear Skies’ initiatives continue to evolve, the brand will continue its efforts to double down on driving change for consumers, as well as the environment.
