Without a doubt, pregnancy is one of the most beautiful moments and the biggest change in a woman’s life – also, the outcome of a happy and successful marriage. Getting pregnant ain’t simple and it’s definitely not done with an on and off button. A woman needs to be mentally, emotionally and most importantly, physically prepared to carry another human inside her uterus. The pain, the joy, the mood swings, the morning sickness, it’s an emotional package. Of course, there are medical ways to induce pregnancy that are becoming more popular. And one of the overlooked factors is that there are ways to help impregnate a woman through food consumption, for those who are in the midst of planning for one, of course.

The thing is, this is a natural way and natural things take time to produce results. It’s not like you eat these foods today and come out to your husband with a positive pregnancy test tomorrow. Consuming these foods are proven to be effective for improving fertility and also great for a woman’s health during pregnancy. Said so by gynecologists, nutritionists and even confirmed by women who had successful pregnancies by including these in their pregnancy diet.

So here is a list of foods that you probably have lying around in your kitchen that can help impregnate you:

1. Avocados

Pinterest

Who doesn’t love a good guacamole, right? Avocados are a super food source for increasing fertility. This amazing source of Vitamin E is proven by previous studies to be beneficial in improving the uterus’ lining. The Vitamin E present in this fruit helps with the transportation of the egg and fertilized embryo – without a smooth transferring of the egg and embryo, conception will not happen. Plus, avocados are extremely nutritious and provide great energy and strength to your body – you need tonnes of that energy during pregnancy to carry that baby. So, get that avocado sandwich in your diet if you want that baby so bad. Oh, feed avocados to your husband too, this rich Vitamin E food apparently improves sperm quality as well.

2. Dark Leafy Greens

If you have hated vegetables your whole life, it is time to change that, because dark leafy greens are great if you are trying to get pregnant. Kale, spinach, bok choy, broccoli, mustard greens – all this green goodness should be included in your daily diet because these vegetables contain folate, which is a form of Vitamin B that helps improve ovulation. Not just for the ladies – these greens are also great for improving fertility in men.

Iron, folate and zinc are three essential minerals to be consumed by women who are trying to get pregnant. Which is why dark, leafy greens are beneficial, as they are packed with those minerals. Cook yourself some hot fluffy rice, stir fry some bok choy and enjoy this super food for fertility.

3. Beets

Beetroots have a lot of health benefits, and among them is increasing blood flow to the uterus, which is helpful for embryo plantation. For women going through the IVF process, a food that is highly recommended by doctors during this treatment are beets, due to its power to help with pregnancy. Even if you are not going for IVF, natural consumption of this food is known to help women conceive. Make yourself some beetroot juice or have a beet salad regularly and you will be on your pregnancy journey in no time.

4. Sweet Potatoes

Pinterest

A food that is rich in beta-carotene and fiber, it helps boost the production of the hormone progesterone. It is also an essential food source during pregnancy because these potatoes are also rich in calcium – and calcium is known to play a big role in conception. It is a key nutrient that triggers the growth and development of the embryo.

Fun fact: Sweet potatoes are packed with Vitamin A, which helps promote healthy and fertile cervical fluid and helps develop follicles in the ovaries.

5. Sardines

Pinterest

Fish like sardine and salmon that are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids are known to have fertility-boosting benefits. A great source of calcium and Vitamin D, sardines are vital protein foods that you must include in your diet if you are looking forward to conceiving. Loading your meals with this healthy fatty food will help increase and direct blood flow to reproductive organs as well as help in regulating the reproductive hormones which boost your chances of getting pregnant.

6. Greek Yogurt

Pinterest

A fertility-promoting food that you can have as a healthy dish first thing in the morning. Greek Yogurt contains calcium, Vitamin D and probiotics… basically everything you need to improve ovulation. The nutrients found in Greek Yogurt help mature the follicles of your ovaries along with strengthening your bones. One serving of this in the morning is all you need to fill your body with the loads of vitamins present in Greek Yogurt.

Get up in the morning, make yourself a Greek Yogurt cereal bowl or parfait, fill it up with berries and walnuts, and you have yourself a fertility boosting cereal.
