Face-tive Season: The Right Way To Prep & Prime Your Skin Before Raya!

Step 1: You gotta have a nice, clean canvas

Let’s face it, everyone wants to look their best this Hari Raya season. Especially after spending two years in a lockdown. Not gonna lie, the last week before the main event is always stressful – shopping for your baju raya, baking cookies, redecorating your home, yada yada. But arguably, the most important thing to prepare for is your skin – the night before the big day.

And when you look in the mirror, you’ll notice that your skin is dry and dehydrated from long, hot days, and you may experience an increase in pigmentation – melasma, dark spots, or freckling – from all that sun exposure. Ugh, a whole new set of problems to worry about. Relax, you can avoid all of this with a few preventative measures. Here are the few golden rules for protecting your skin overnight.

1. Don’t Forget Your Serums

To add more hydration to the skin, layer a hyaluronic serum under your regular moisturizer. Find something that combines hyaluronic acid with actives to strengthen the skin’s barrier. Not to mention anything that is oil-free and featherweight, which makes it perfect for the transitional.

2. Apply SPF

Despite deceptive weather conditions, UVA rays are just as strong in the rainy months as they are in the usual hot season, and just as likely to cause serious damage. So start wearing your sunscreen these few days before Raya.

3. Prioritize Night-Time Skincare

To kickstart your skin’s natural night-time repair mode, you may want to invest in some nourishing overnight formulas. Supercharge your skin’s health with a powerful product that contains a blend of anti-inflammatory omegas, protective antioxidants, and vitamin-rich botanical oils. So while helping your mum lay out a clean tablecloth, make sure you have your mask on.

4. Don’t Forget Your H20

While it may sound obvious, to combat the dehydrating effects of central heating, it’s important to keep hydrated, which means drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Now that Ramadan’s over, chug that water, honey.
