If you’ve been watching Rupaul’s Drag Race this season, you’d know of the numerous twists and turns that left us gagged and bamboozled throughout the season. From the participants’ anxiety-ridden discovery of a golden ticket in their Rupaul chocolate bar during elimination, to the many (far too many) “shantay you stays” for the queens to remain in the competition – the queens have had it rough. However, what we’re all most excited about – and anticipate every season – is the looks that the queens showcase and stun us with as they walk down the catwalk.
Now that Rupaul’s Drag Race Season 14’s grand finale is just two weeks away, we think it’s time for a look back at some of the season’s finest looks. So let’s examine our top 10 “toots” from this season’s queens’ ensembles.
Maddy Morphosis’ Sickening Signature Drag
Let’s start with Maddy Morphosis, the most controversial contestant in the history of Rupaul’s Drag Race. Maddy isn’t your typical drag queen; he’s a straight drag queen, which astounded both the audience and his competitors. Despite the fact that his sexual orientation was a point of contention for some, he nonetheless dazzled us with his looks, particularly on the runway. His show-stopping appearance, in which he presented his own unique look of being decapitated, took us completely off guard. It was without a doubt one of the greatest looks in the episode.
Daya Betty’s Signature Show-Stopping Drag
Despite the fact that Daya Betty was eliminated in the first episode – and then reappeared in the third, because, why not? – she nonetheless stunned us with her first appearance. A form-fitting garment made entirely of ribbons and sewn in crisscross designs. Utter perfection! And the fact that she made it all by herself with the aid of a friend just adds to the beauty of the outfit.
Alyssa Hunter’s Leopard Evening Wear
Rupaul’s Drag Race knows how to do balls, and for this season’s theme, Rupaul took it a step further by doing TWO balls! Animal Print and Red, White, and Blue were the two distinct categories of the ball. While there were many spectacular (and not so spectacular) outfits on the runway, Alyssa Hunter’s Leopard Evening Wear is one that we really must talk about. The shoulders, the silhouette and the fascinator – STUNNED! Incredibly snatched and totally gives “I killed my rich husband and will steal his inheritance” vibes – which we are all for.
Willow Pill’s Zebra Print Resort
Willow Pill’s interpretation of Zebra Print Resort is elegant and sophisticated. A simple, yet classy piece that fits the concept nicely – after all, who wouldn’t want to look like Willow Pill as you walk around the pool holding a zebra printed clutch? I would. Plus, the colour scheme is stunning, with orange, blue, and green paired with white to bring everything together.
Angeria Paris’s VanMicheals’ Red Hot Resort
Another resort wear outfit, but this time, it’s coming in HOT! Angeria Paris’s VanMicheals’ is adored by the cast and viewers alike for her fantastic personality and wicked sense of humour. Her outfits didn’t let her down as she’s strutted down the runway, displaying her real pageantry magnificence. Her Red Hot Resort ensemble, on the other hand, drastically transforms from her pageant vibes to a more 60’s mod appearance, which we adore! She was dressed entirely in red, with a mini tulle garment that bounced and flowed with every step she took.
Kerri Colby’s Night of 1,000 J.Los
For this episode, the queens had to walk down the runway wearing one of Jennifer Lopez’s most iconic looks – and with JLo, you’d know there are a lot of outfits she’s worn throughout the years. But, of course, miss Kerri Colby had to bring the MOST iconic JLo look of them all, the actual green Versace dress that JLo wore during Milan Fashion week 2019. How crazy is that? She literally embodied JLo when she stomped the runway with the dress flowing effortlessly behind her. ICONIC!
Lady Camden’s Chaps On The Runway
How could we ever forget Lady Camden’s most legendary runway ever? She literally shocked us all when she “slipped” on the runway and fell face first to the ground… just to get back up and become the personification of Freddie Mercury. Lady Camden gave it her all with her kicks and splits, channeling her inner Freddie Mercury. One of the best runways of the whole season, making her one of the top contestants to root for right away.
Deja Sky’s Shoulder Pads
For such a simple concept, there were some incredibly lacklustre looks on the runway. Shoulder pads – that’s it and nothing else. We expected different renditions of huge shoulder pads, but we were utterly disappointed – except with miss Deja Sky. Deja Sky donned a tweed baby pink suit with the biggest, most GIGANTIC shoulder pads – so she clearly understood the assignment. She displayed the dress with ease and elegance, holding a little purse that nicely juxtaposed the whole ensemble.
Bosco’s Tutu Much
We all know tutus are a little girl’s best friend. But when you bring it to the stage of Rupaul’s Drag Race, things can get a little bloody. If you thought Natalie Portman’s Black Swan was scary, you haven’t seen Bosco as a bloody ballerina. Bosco’s interpretation of tutu was just out of this world as she relevé on the stage with “blood” splattered all over her torso and a few jagged gears latched to her shoulders. What wowed us even more was that her “tutu” was a gear splattered with blood as well. A truly haunting sight.
Lady Camden’s You’re A Winner, Baby!
Before the grand finale, the top 5 queens were asked to don an ensemble that screams “You’re A Winner, Baby!” and while some went completely out of the box with the theme, Lady Camden chose to sparkle. Her dress was absolutely a magnificent sight to see as she glided down the catwalk like the ultimate ice princess that she is. From head to toe, she shimmered and dazzled like a true queen, inching her way closer for the ultimate grand prize. A beautiful dress to end before the grand finale.
