Do you recall an episode of America’s Next Top Model where the contestants were running about on “go-see”? It’s one of the most exciting challenges that models face when trying to schedule a runway show – and I like seeing the challenge unfold each season.
What fascinates me the most is what they wore to the auditions. They won’t even be considered for the runway if they don the wrong outfit to the audition. “It’s simply walking,” you could reason. “Why bother with the things they wear?” Presenting oneself as a real and high-fashion model is an art form that we believe everyone can master, regardless of who you are. So, just because you aren’t a model, it doesn’t mean you can’t look like one, right?
With that being said, if you wish to look like a high fashion model going for casting calls, here’s how to do it:
Minimal Look
Drop all of your cakey cosmetics, including your brushes and sponges, because being a model is primarily about highlighting your natural characteristics. If we want to seem like a model, we’ll go for a “no makeup” makeup look. When it comes to cosmetics, you never want to change your face. Using makeup is all about emphasizing and accentuating your natural beauty rather than hiding it.
So, try to use as little makeup as you possibly can. Plus, when using liquid products, ie. concealer, blush and lipstick, it’s better to apply them with clean fingers to warm up the products, and achieve a more natural finish.
Simple Clothing
To appear like a top model, your wardrobe must be basic, clean and figure fitting. It’s more elegant to have the same colour on top and bottom to make your form appear slimmer and to enhance your figure beautifully. Also, don’t wear anything jarring, because you want everyone’s attention to be on you rather than your attire. Which means, there will be no patterns, bright colours, or exaggerated silhouettes.
When it comes to the pants, black denim in a fitted or slim fit is ideal. A basic shirt, such as a tank top or a tee, would suffice.
The Right Heels
Models frequently bring heels to casting calls so that they may wear them while auditioning for gigs on the runway. We’re not models, so walking around in high heels is nearly impossible for us mundane folks, therefore we won’t do it.
Chunky heels, on the other hand, are your bestest friend, since they provide you the support and balance you need to strut down the street. You may experience some discomfort along the way, but for the sake of looking like a model? Own it. The world is your oyster, and your runway, for that matter.
So, if you want to be on top – you better look the part
