A musical comedy created by Matt Stone and Trey Parker of South Park fame, The Book of Mormon is a humorous look at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ teachings and practices. In the end, the musical emphasizes the power of love and service. Its opening number, ‘Hello!’, is a catchy and fun tune to sing along to.

Legally Blonde The Musical
Legally Blonde The Musical is a 2007 musical adaptation of the novel and the 2001 Resse Witherspoon movie of the same name. The musical was taped in September 2007 and premiered in October 2007 on MTV. Following that, a reality television show was broadcast that documented the audition process for the Next Elle Woods on Broadway. The musical has iconic tunes such as ‘Omigod you guys’, ‘There! Right There!’ (fandoms of any kind’s favorite shipping song).

Hamilton: An American Musical
A telling of America then by America now, Hamilton is a rap musical written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The musical cast non-white actors in leading roles, and the music genre varies from Hip Hop, R&B and Pop, to other genres for its catchy songs and soundtrack. Hamilton is available on Disney+.

Wicked
A musical based on the famed story The Wizard of Oz, Wicked is based on the perspective of the witches of the Land of Oz. Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Galinda (later Glinda the Good Witch) have their friendship tested by their different personalities and beliefs, rivalry over the same love interest, reactions to the Wizard’s corrupt regime, and, eventually, Elphaba’s own fall from grace.
Idina Menzel who originated Elphaba’s role gave a powerful performance on the show’s signature tune – Defying Gravity – which also has different renditions and covers. It’s also said to be one of the hardest songs to cover and perform as well.

The Lion King Musical
A musical based on Disney’s The Lion King, the musical brings grace to the audience with its beautiful set designs and colours. It follows the plot of the animated movie to the T, with additional story expansions to solidify character motifs not shown in the 1994 movie.
