The respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, is COVID-19. Most people receiving COVID-19 suffer from mild to intermediate infection.

While most COVID-19 cases are not critical, approximately 1 in 5 cases are gravely ill. For this reason, it is necessary to identify, test and see when to seek medical attention when one is suspected to present COVID-19 symptoms. In Malaysia, we are currently under the 3rd deadly phase of COVID-19 with a third lockdown imposed.

Cases as of recently have been nothing less than 20, 000 and the death toll is facing steady progress with lives being taken by this virus daily!

COVID-19 symptoms quite often arise progressively, that being said, the major symptoms of COVID-19 are as such:

  • Fever
  • Dry cough
  • Fatigue
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Body pains and aches
  • Headaches
  • Runny or a stuffy nose
  • Sore throat
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Loss of taste

What to do if you fear you might have caught the COVID-19 virus?

  • Just stay home.
  • Please go out only for medical attention.
  • Isolate yourself from others.
  • Make use of a separate bedroom and bathroom.
  • If you need to be around people, wear a synthetic facial covering that covers your nose and mouth.
  • Fixate on consuming nutritious home-cooked meals.
  • To help relieve symptoms such as fever, headache, body aches and pains, use over-the-counter drugs such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or paracetamol.
  • Wash your hands regularly especially after coughing or sneezing, after using the toilet, and before eating or handling food, this is particularly necessary.
  • If you need to cough or sneeze, cover your mouth. Try using a tissue or the crook of your elbow to cover your mouth instead of using your palm.
  • Do not share personal things such as eating utensils, drinking glasses, telephones, remote controls, keyboards, towels, or bedding with others.

Always be cautious when you go out and expose yourself to the public. Never ever take the symptoms lightly.

To help the body battle the infection, get plenty of rest. Keep yourself hydrated by having plenty of water to drink. Water, energy drinks, or low sodium broths may help with the body’s immune system. Tell a friend or family member to help pick up your groceries when you are sick. In case you need to cough or sneeze, have tissues near your reach.

Remember to dispose of them promptly in the garbage bin and be sure to wash and sanitise your hands at all times.

Carefully monitor your symptoms if you’re currently sick. If you start developing breathing difficulties, chest pain, or extreme tiredness, seek immediate medical attention!

Your negligence can be detrimental!
