One dynamic ethos. Two contrasting charms. That best encapsulates Far East Hospitality’s robust Rendezvous brand in Singapore as a whole. In addition to the existing Rendezvous Hotel Singapore along Bras Basah Road, the leading hotel and serviced residence operator recently expanded its footprint in Lion City by unveiling the newly refurbished Orchard Rendezvous Hotel on Tanglin Road.
While the aforementioned properties extend dissimilar yet distinct experiences, both are synonymous in its forward-thinking vision under the revamped Rendezvous brand, that is to harmonise simultaneously the allure of the past and present through well-sited properties that acquaint guests to the culture, arts, food, fashion and design of their immediate surroundings.
A recent stay at both these Rendezvous properties not only allowed for us to fully experience all the noteworthy offerings and amenities presented within, but also to embrace the seamless integration of the hotels into their well-appointed settings and encircling vicinities. Read on as we divulge further below.
Rendezvous Hotel Singapore
Smack right in the heart of city-state’s thriving arts and heritage district, the 298-guest room Rendezvous Hotel Singapore is only a stone’s throw away from prominent cultural landmarks such as the National Gallery Singapore, Singapore Art Museum, National Museum of Singapore and Pinacothèque de Paris, aside from being cleverly situated right where creative experimentation takes place seemingly at every turn.
The hotel’s contemporary design, fused with a retro flair, evidently stays true to the nature of its neighbourhood, but it doesn’t just end there. Stepping foot into the property is akin to entering a multi-sensorial art gallery as it weaves numerous art mediums and masterpieces by local and international artists into its overall aesthetic that are swapped out periodically, evoking a fresh appreciation for the arts upon every visit.
This vibrant eccentricity, too, works in its favour by way of its modern rooms boasting various themes as per the respective levels. On top of amenities boosting comfort and convenience including a Handy smartphone, each room is artfully decked out with evocative elements comprising stylish motif-laden wall panels and abstract art. Guests staying in the Club Room and other upper tiers are also entitled to complimentary added privileges such as all-day refreshments.
Though dining options are aplenty close by, the hotel’s in-house cafe – Straits Cafe – appeases the palate just as well with its local Singaporean delights and international myriad of flavours for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Besides the trendy lobby lounge bar The Library which serves up tantalising tipples, the hotel houses a modest-sized swimming pool and a well-equipped fitness centre.
Other points of interest within walking distance includes Chijmes – a 19th-century, neoclassical convent and school structure turned into a swanky entertainment complex, now a verdant enclave and compelling home to posh restaurants, flourishing nightlife and an event space. For a high-end twist on exceptional Pan-Asian cuisine that melds modern and traditional ingredients and cooking techniques, the award-winning Coriander Leaf is definitely worth a shot.
Orchard Rendezvous Hotel
Singapore’s iconic Orchard Road is the epitome of all temptations. Nothing else is quite like this bustling retail and dining haven, and positioned right at the end of this renowned shopping belt is Orchard Rendezvous Hotel, which is a rebrand of the 1968-founded Orchard Parade Hotel. Thanks to its prime location, it has long been a hub not only for leisure travellers, but also business travellers for its close proximity to the CBD.
The property is right in the midst of the glitz and glamour of the cosmopolitan city-state, yet it affords sheer tranquility away from the high-traffic area by fusing old-world opulence with new-world charm, as well as subliminally injecting aspects of botanics; first to pay homage to its heritage as the original building was developed atop a plot of old pepper plantation, and secondly, to express an ode to the neighbouring Singapore Botanic Gardens.
These organic elements are delicately entwined into the design of the building in the form of chandeliers, motifs and more, as well as in all its 388 guest rooms. A rare leverage not typically feasible within Singapore, the property’s nine guest room tiers range from Superior Rooms all the way up to Family Suites, with the capacity to accommodate up to four adults plus two children, complete with bunk beds in select rooms.
Should guests desire taking respite indoors, the hotel’s nine F&B outlets of endless cuisines will leave guests feeling spoilt for choice as far as dining options are concerned. Alternatively, the journey to great rejuvenation may take place at the hotel’s outdoor swimming pool, gymnasium or the Executive Lounge, which is made accessible for Club Room guests and those of other upper room tiers only.
To commemorate the rebranding of Orchard Parade Hotel to Orchard Rendezvous alongside celebrating the revamped Rendezvous brand with a new distinguishable logo and signature powder blue colour that symbolises elegance and sophistication, Far East Hospitality also commissioned a two-toned, cross-hybrid Vanda Pieces of Eight and Vanda Rasri Gold orchids, which is now named Vanda Orchard Rendezvous and is displayed on Level 6 of the hotel.
Both Rendezvous Hotel Singapore and Orchard Rendezvous Hotel bring to the table varying flairs that may appeal to different demographics according to their geographic interests, however neither impart less than outstanding guest experiences that are sure to make lasting impressions, given that they are indeed little gems of affordable mid-tier luxury in an otherwise notoriously overpriced city-state.
