Cystic acne, which is annoying and totally uncalled for, is the worst form of breakouts possible, most commonly found on the face as well as other problem areas including the chest, back, upper arms and shoulders. The easiest way to tell cystic acne from regular breakouts is when your pimples appear large and red, cause pain and are embedded deep within the skin.
It may hurt or itch, but whatever you do — do not pick at it because when a cyst bursts, the infection can spread and cause more breakouts. Yes, it may seem impossible to overcome and the emotional as well as psychological effects it leaves could be damaging to your self-esteem.
With that said, we have listed down the ways several cystic acne sufferers conquered their problem and cleared up their skin once and for all by using natural home remedies easily found in the kitchen. Perhaps this may inspire you to transform your skin too?

1. Green tea and honey
17-year-old Hilda Paz Robles never had problems with acne but her skin started to break out all of a sudden in April 2017, and it was bad. Seeking help from everyone, it was the tip from her aunt that turned out to be the answer to her prayers.
“My auntie is the one who recommended me to use 100% green tea and 100% raw honey,” in which she did by applying the mixture as a face mask. She emptied a couple of green tea bags each time to be mixed in with raw honey. Sometimes she would mix the two up to be used as a face scrub.
She persisted with the routine about three times a week and finally saw results in five months. Green tea has the potential to be more effective than other acne treatments because it has high anti-inflammatory properties. Meanwhile, raw honey helps to reduce redness, soothe inflammation, and kill acne-causing bacteria.
2. Apple cider vinegar
I can personally vouch for this one. A pal of mine had a sudden outburst of cystic acne when luckily, she discovered the wonderful benefits of apple cider vinegar and let me in on her cure.
The effective elixir can be used two ways – By mixing apple cider vinegar with cold water or seltzer before consuming it; or using it as a toner by diluting half a cup of apple cider vinegar with water and applying it all over the skin using a cotton pad. Regular use of this solution will help maintain the pH balance of your skin and prevent various types of skin reactions.
Apple cider vinegar is so great for curing acne because it returns the acidity to our skin and restores that acid mantle. It also kills bacteria, reduces wrinkles, tones skin, and dissolves dead skin cells like a boss.
3. Turmeric
Via Instagram Stories, Victoria’s Secret alum Jourdan Dunn unveiled her secret recipe to possessing a lovely glow and keeping acne at bay – It’s turmeric.
Using four ingredients, the supermodel mixes 1/2 cup yogurt, 1/8 teaspoon of turmeric, a slight squeeze of lemon, and a teaspoon of honey to make a mask. I read that adding black pepper may also help to increase the bioavailability of the curcumin within the turmeric. Be careful as too much lemon juice may irritate the skin due to the acidity and overdoing it can cause your skin to turn yellow.
Turmeric contains natural antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and colour-balancing properties that can be used to brighten skin, delay ageing and combat acne. The combo is great because yoghurt and turmeric help keep acne at bay while honey and lemon juice fight cell damage.
4. Baking soda
Due to its granular composition, baking soda acts as an excellent exfoliating mask when mixed in with water or your favourite cleanser. Use the one-to-one ratio to create a paste, and you can opt to add a spritz of lemon juice to the mix to make the exfoliator even more potent. Let it sit on your skin for 15 minutes and then rinse off with warm water. Remember to moisturise soon after removing the mask to prevent the skin from drying out.
This kitchen staple is amphoteric — meaning it is able to react both as a base and as an acid — so it neutralises some of the chemicals that cause skin irritation and lifts excess oil to dry problem areas and also acts as an anti-inflammatory agent.
If you suffering from Acne like Aneeka don’t hesitate to apply honey and cinnamon on your face leave it for 30 minutes then rinse it off with lukewarm water don’t wipe your face let it dry on its own #BBNaija

5. Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a great traditional healing ingredient used for bacterial and fungal infections. When mixed together with raw honey, it contains the zit-zapping power you need.
To make your own treatment, blend three tablespoons of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder until it forms a paste, and leave the mixture on your face for 30 minutes to an hour before rinsing it off with warm water. However, since cinnamon can be a potential allergen, it would be wise for you to do a patch test 24 hours before using the mask.
Cinnamon has potent anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties that make it highly effective for fighting acne. This sweet spice can be used to make a variety of skin masks to treat acne for all skin types.
If your skin isn’t responding well to topical acne treatments, step away from the harsh creams and open up your kitchen cabinets instead. Sometimes, it’s all about going back to basics, and who knows? You may just find your perfect solution right there. Good luck!
